Yup, it's truly a heavy hitter in that segment. We have one in the family and it's such a joy to drive, and can be so well-equipped for it's price tag. Great torque, good transmission, and it's fuel efficient on top of that. Great vehicle.
It even has more rear room than the Macan GTS in our family as well. That was a surprise.

Honestly, this surprises me. I had one as a loaner recently and can confidently say it was one of the least inspiring BMWs I've ever had the displeasure of driving.

I love my X1. The power is surprising for the little SUV. I have surprised a lot of my car friends who drive modded e90 3 series and expect to smoke me. It keeps up pretty well.

It's not bad for an suv that's front wheel drive. If you get into it thinking it sux then you won't be disappointed.

Ours was incredibly cheap at 28k + TTL, it's not an X3M obviously, but as a 2nd car/dog hauler it's very well made and considerably more fun to drive than the miserable appliances stacked up against it in that class

However.. not taking down the following classes.. also shows BMW they have work to do.. compact luxury mid size luxury Large SUV Up until now.. BMW didn't even have an entry in the Large SUV class... and the X7 does look nice.. hopefully the upcoming X3 M potentially tips the scales in the compact luxury department for next year.. shame it doesn't have blind spot monitoring. that was the main reason we got X3 instead.

Macan may be the best in it's class, but it's almost twice as much as it's competitors with the same options/features.

You had the option, and you even *considered* an X3?? Have you SEEN an X3 in person?

I was going to post the same thing. Granted the loaner was fully loaded but it really drove “weird”. The ride is firm and vague at the same time...

Car and Driver 10 Best and other of their so called awards are a joke.
They pretty much hate every other current model BMW but have a soft spot for the X1? That publication has gone downhill since the days of Brock Yates and Caaba Csere. I have nothing against the X1 and would consider one as a second vehicle. But I simply find myself having a hard time taking C&D opinions and awards seriously as of late.

I had a '17 X1 for about 20 months. Nice little CUV. One of the best in the segment, no question. Now have a '19 X3. Also one of the better ones in its segment. They're different and I like 'em both
