I have contacted my local authorized service center about this issue and they asked Germany. Today they told me that Germany has offered %60 discount for the part's cost. The parts are 25168483098 and 18308631986 but I don't understand the function of the latter.
Plus I have to pay all the labor. This offer is neither good nor bad IMO.

Hello Guys!

Does anyone repaired the gearshift lever with this problem?
I found some guys who told me that they repaired their gearshift, but they didn't want to disclose how did they do it.
I searched all over and what I found is that there is a spring who does not push the "P" sensor resulting then the error. If this spring is "fixed" then the problem is solved.
Can anyone confirm this, or other solution?

Regards,
Stefan

guys, please have someone answer me about this gearbox problem. It happens to me, I have f48, 2016. When you sent the mail to bmw, after how long did they contact you and approve your repair through "goodwill". Likewise, if someone has a solution that someone has been able to repair, let them know. Authorized service refused me because my warranty had expired. Thank you.

If you are out of plan, what have you got to lose - may as well try? Mine is going in for a fuel leak this week, then I am thinking to pull the dash out myself and find this GOD DAM SPRING, I will document all steps and see if I can solve this problem once and for all, giving BMW the finger!!

Spring

I have the same issue in my 2016 bmw x1. Found some info on the mini repair page. I can try this but may take a few days as work has been crazy. Let me know if any one has success.

Thanks for the info mike.x1

As for my problem, just two days ago I found someone in Romania who is selling repaired selectors for around 200 €. He didn't want to disclose how he did it, but he guaranteed that it will not have this problem again.
I've just bought one and received it today... bad timing.

Anyway, your info is more than useful for other owners.

Agreed - this is what I am currently attempting.. however, I don't have the available tools and lift to get to the underside of the vehicle.

To get the assembly out of the interior is surprisingly easy. Just a few Hex20 screws and some clips. 4 bolts hold the whole assembly in on the inside of the car. I got this far..

However, you need to remove part of the exhaust heatshield, and I cannot get to that point without a lift. Trying to find a friend that can assist. I pulled out the whole air intake system, battery and I can get to the actual gear selector on the topside of the steptronic. Thats as far as I can get...

Once the whole shifter assembly is out, it can be opened, and a tiny spring holds back a white lever that covers a sensor.. that's it.. the tiny little spring. Either replace, or you can rebend the bigger half of the spring to the right shape, and put it back in..

So.. Anyone in Johannesburg South Africa have a car lift?

Jamessfarnell, it's possible to take out the cables that enters into the gear selector and to take it out without lifting the carr. I've just did it last weekend.
On the front of the gear lever selector, where the cables are going in, there is a round hole, where you will see a black plastic clip moving when you change gears. You just have to rotate it with a flat screwdriver and it release the cables. Very easy.

Here is a picture.

THANKS!

Were you successful in changing your gear selector unit and did it need to be coded to your car?

Did you keep your broken one to see how it can be repaired?

Lastly, the blue connector for the iDrive control, is there anything special needed to get it off? I couldn't get it out at all and i was worried I was going to break the cable?

I don't know how to get it off because the replacement was made by a technician, a was just assisting. Sorry.

Good luck!
