Carly for BMW - on F48
Hi,
Is anyone of you using the BMW Carly App? Is this one already working for the F48 modells? Anyone who has experiences with this App in general? Thanks. /Geraner

With this "Toy" you can read out fault codes from the control units, and perform some programming of functions in the car.
As I understand in some cars you can change for example whether you want to have the comfort access function enabled or not. Doing some simple setting changes by yourself, without going to the BMW workshop. But the functions are very limited on specially newer modells. I also sent them an e-mail and got the answer that it is depending on how fast they are getting access to a test-vehicle to check how compatible the existing codings are with the newer modells. Some F-Modells are been released support for in the Android version of this software in June. But whether the new X1 F48 is already included can not be answered yet. Just keep checking updates in the sofware from time to time. I'm thinking about buying one of their Wifi-Adapters.

Bumping this to see if you guys are aware of any updates. I'm not sure if their website is up to date.
I don't have a laptop and Carly seems to be the best option for iOS as far as I know. |

Finally updated with coding support for F48. Update notes aren't that detailed: "Many new codings for all supported F-models, i.e. Engine Start Stop Memory, Welcome-Light and other rear light codings, iDrive codings (Video in motion) and many more…".
I'm away for a couple of days and don't want to order the dongle until after I'm back. Would be great to hear some feedback if anyone already has the dongle. |

Makes coding easy and quick. Have used it on many cars. Will report back as soon as the F48 is brought over for me to check.

Slightly bad news
The app sees the F48 ECU's but gives me "the software version on the ECU is not compatible with the App yet". This is a brand new late July 2016 build X1 that has the latest BMW software. I had to update Esys to the latest versions to work on this car. So Carly will probably work fine with older X1 with older BMW software, but its not working for coding on the very latest software yet. Will see if I can arrange for a older X1 to test on. Hopefully someone else on the forum has a older one to test aswell.

To register new batteries on cars you need to purchase another small once off licence in the app and also another if you want to code video in motion.

Very
You just plug in the adapter and connect to it via the app. Choose coding. Read the current values per ECU. Tap on the item you want to change Tap code car. Done Once you are used to it it takes less than a minute to code something like Auto stop start memory from unlocking the car to being done. Takes much longer to look through the options of what you can change than actually changing anything. Just make sure the cars battery is well charged with a good charger attached or the engine running Example on Youtube of iOS version coding in digital speedo

Thanks for the info.... looks pretty easy. Once they sort out the f48 compatibility for newer cars I'll get one. I take it you need the pro app to do coding?

I've been advised by Carly that currently they support modules up to March 2016 software versions, and that my May 2016 X1 vehicle build is too new.
Also that there are several months between a BMW software update and until they have the necessary info to code these, but that they are working on it. It may be useful to subscribe to their newsletter. |
