So whilst I was installing my new screen I found out I had the LED connectors preinstalled behind the dash trim.
I bough and installed an OEM light strip and LED head and everything works (see pic for result).

My current questions are:

I did not have the factory ambient lighting option so this is basically a retrofit, which means I have no settings in the iDrive menu, can they be added somehow (BimmerCode)?

Has anyone tried taking apart the doors? Is there a chance the connectors are also inside the door panels (before I start opening everything up)?

Thanks!

Does anyone have a clue?

I might just open the door trim to check if the connectors are also there, but, it would be nice to be able to adjust everything through the idrive.

Cheers

Search Ambi and light in expert mode>Headunit in bimmercode. There should be a few options related to lighting.

No idea about the connectors tho, should be present.

Ok I searched, but, got hundreds of results

I think I'm gonna keep searching for something a bit more specific

Did you open the doors at the end to see if there were connectors?
I have the same connector behind my dash trim.
How much did it cost?

Total for both LED module and light strip shipped was around €30.

Have not opened the door trims yet, I tried but it sounded like I was about to break something so I stopped lol

you'd be surprised how easily the door panel comes off. basically, two torx screws and just clips - you can do this in under 5 mins & see if the connectors are there.

Here's a video i used when I installed the oem tweeters moulding.

Yeah I saw this too, it was removing the door handle that it felt like something was about to break real bad.

Might give it another go over the weekend 😅

yeah - i felt the same way when i first tried this but it's like the clips that sound like they're breaking but they arent. just got to be careful and all is good.

I have opened the other trim on the dashboard, the small one that is next to the steering wheel, and it does not have an ambient led connection wire.

Should there be one that side? 🤔

don't think so - my trim lighting connector is on other end of the dashboard close to the furthest vent from steering wheel.

hello friend, today I put the led light on the dashboard. Did you code to be able to regulate light intensity or color change? Do you get the interior light option in idrive? Thank you!!!
