I don’t consider cars investments to begin with but I also don’t think I would take financial advice from an entry level position.

They may be right, but it’s doubtful there is even enough data for that, there might be 200 of these things on the road right now?

This new M35i has a similar feel to a 340i and the tune is quite ridiculous. Torque is available fast and in gobs, it definitely doesn't feel like the same engine as a standard X1/2 even though it is based on it. The transmission is not quite as brutal as the ZF in sport mode but it isn't far off either. The sound is quite sublime and if you think it's all fake, roll down the windows and it gets even better.

If we had 340 wagons in the US I probably would've gone a different route but this X2 pretty much checks all the boxes and I personally like the way it looks.

I haven't had the pleasure of taking it up to the mountains yet but on the few twisty areas I have been able to drive it handles spot on and I have no doubts you can swing the rear end out if you want too, I've already felt it break a little just from accelerating a little too briskly mid apex, being that I am used to the X1 taking a little time to wake up.

If you try it and still hate it, that's cool, but to rip on it without seeing what it can and can't do is just silly.
Great post. I love my X2. It's comfortable, great on gas and fun to drive. This is from the perspective of my previous car, an E46 M3 6MT, which I still own and still love. I suspect that most of the haters have never driven an X2.

I really laugh at the comments that the X1/X2 are a mini underneath. This is no more valid than saying a Porsche Cayanne is an Audi Q7 or a Volkswagen Toureg. Platform sharing is the reason why there is more choice in the market now than there ever has been before. I can't help but wonder what cars on the market are not based on a shared platform. Probably very few.

I was just about to post that one! A very positive review from an m2 and sq2 owner.

For BMW, the number of cars sold in a year defines success.

Although I will not buy X2, others will. It's an appealing vehicle.

I'd much rather have the X2 in the BMW Lineup than the 3-Series GT. Also, it's a Crossover and not a full SAV.

Performance vehicle?
It's the internet age, we use the term "performance" very loosely :

Catch up with the time old man!
Hahaha. I was just looking for some clarification is all

I'm in my mid 40s is that old??? Shit it is
I would not call you old but more of a refined age.

Of course it is a gorgeous color but M cars deserve a lil bit of exclusivity dont you think...

We got a white x2 m35i on lease 2 months ago, and about 8-9k off sticker. It's really a great car imo. Fills a niche not many people are asking for but it's a very special feeling hatch/wagon. the $500 red sports seats option is a must and the engine sounds great. I would drive it everyday instead of my M3 CS if it was mine lol.

Wow this is well overpriced in the UK. See Tony's website says £4K down and £450 a month over 4 years before options !! And you get stung on the luxury car tax at £320 pa.

Had the X2 as a loaner for my E84 X1 xDrive35i. Have also owned a 2016 GTI. The X2 was very sad in every aspect other than looks. Both the GTI and the E84 kill it in driving dynamics, steering feel, ergos, etc. I realize that it wasn't the M35i guise, but you can't put lipstick on a pig and call it a supermodel.

Ha, have had both of your cars and an X2 loaner as well as test driven the new X1. Couldn't agree more. If this is the future, I'm out.

There is still hope. Go test drive the new X3 M40i. Much better, although still somewhat lacking in steering feel it makes up for it in other areas.

Agreed. We nearly bought one, it's a great truck. Spousal unit just preferred the Q5 for the technology. All VW at the moment.

Active sound is completely ludicrous in the M40. It literally sounds like someone is tied up in the trunk and banging on the hatch when the exhaust pops and cracks.

I've only driven a base X2 once or twice briefly so I didn't get a good feel but so far, I've enjoyed the first couple of hundred miles in the M35...then I get in my M2 and really appreciate my life.
