Didn’t they already go after plastic straws, because those high capacity rapid delivery devices cause death in poor innocent persons.

Since plastic is banned in those states, how will they make the blades and components for the wind mills to generate electricity? Or is that plastic good for us.

Nah they are fine with that plastic because it doesn't end up in the water, instead when they are done with those blades they just send them to Wyoming to be buried where they sill sit for the next 1000yrs not decomposing or getting recycled...

With piggy back tunes isn't it trivial to just remove it for smog?

I think for Bootmod3, someone just smogged their car without any problems by reverting and then re-locking.

I'm not even sure you have to relock the DME. According to this thread, it seems like you do.

piggy back units doesn't seem to have any issues passing.

any flashed tune, flash back to factory tune will pass with no issues once the monitors are set.

can anyone confirm BM3 flash back to stock will return the original checksum and pass the latest smog verifications?

some people sam the BM3 flash changes the DME permanently that it's impossible to flash back to stock?

They will recycle the dirty needles in Los Angeles and San Francisco. They're free just like coca cola straws, but they're more environmentally friendly.

There are companies staring up right now to recycle them.

Has anyone actually failed smog yet for a flash tune? Until I get some real world experience from folks, I'm planning to go in with my flash tune and see what happens (in 1 year).

I suppose as long as they don't end up in the ocean it's an improvement. As long as we are improving, it's good. As they say, Rome wasn't built in a day…

Any reduction in pollution is good…it's a journey, as they say.

Given we are several months into this regulation there doesn't seem to be much of an issue.

LOL, dude you will FOR SURE fail. why do you think for some reason they will pass you, in Cali of all states? Your CVN numbers will not match in the DME and tune, then they'll send you to a Ref or Star stations.

For what it's worth, I know of an NM tuned N18 MINI engine that passed a star station inspection under the new rules. NM verbally claimed the checksums would match--different engine, different tune, but same manufacturer so I thought it worth mentioning...

That NM tune or whatever looks like a piggyback, which if it is then that doesn't affect the CVN/checksum as it is still using the OEM tune, just fudging the input/output numbers or however they do it. Flash tunes are where you have to worry about the CVN/check sums

Sorry. You're right, I should've been clearer: it's not a piggy back, but a bench tune where the ECU was pulled from the car for the update. No extra hardware, not a piggyback tricking the car into making more boost based on tweaking the sensor input. They claim the checksums match--it's also been out there for a while, and maybe was picked up as an OK variant by the DMV? Just guessing here and throwing out one more data point for what it's worth.

oh ok, yeah that's awesome if so. Another forum member posted in a similar thread about N52 tunes that it is possible to get the checksums to match or atleast look like they match on a custom tune, but he hadn't done it or looked too much into it as that's a federal felony if caught.
