I ordered the JoyeAuto wireless Carplay unit for my 2016 F48 / 10/2015 build with HU_ENTURYNAV. After placing my order, I found this thread and read about the issues Cryze had with this unit. I was thinking about sending it back, but it arrived on Friday and I installed over the weekend.

During my installation I found there is little room underneath the headunit and I could tell there was no way to get all of the cables tucked in and get the dash panels re-installed. Unit seems to work great on Carplay functions wireless. I am still learning about using it with the telephone functions and I also have the bluetooth paired with the factory audio (just the telephone option paired) so it will use the microphones in the car v/s the additional mic that is installed for the "Hey Siri" function to work.

I was thinking I would miss the touch screen functionality but using the iDrive controller and the steering wheel controls work for selecting options in Carplay great. The telephone buttons work if you have the unit paired with factory bluetooth.

To switch between the factory audio and Carplay you long press the back button.

Does anyone know of a retrofit Carplay unit that supports touch screen? In theory it should be possible as the 'box' has the wire plugged from the screen to it so it may just be down to the software.

I read most of the pages of this discussion, but i need some clarifications on the step to follow to properly upgrade the system.

by knowing that my car 2017 X1 has ENTRYNAV (VIN is 5J24893), with 6.5 screen and I want to upgrade to at least 8,8 android unit...
here's the questions:

Do teleservices (S6AE) and Emergency call (S6AC) will still work?
What i'll lose over the OEM functionalities?
Do apps like IbusApp can be "digested" (and how much) by the system ( i have it on my Avin4 on my e46 and I love it)

If you use an aftermarket HMI box and keep factory Head Unit, all will work as normal. I don't know anything about IbusApp.

i suppose that for factory HU you mean the main brain into the dash and not the screen (which is only a display),

So an Android screen+ Oem Entrynav= no changes, right?


IbusApp is one of the coolest app you can use on android devices on Bmws, by working on the Ibus, it offers a lot of interesting features

but the purpose is to use a bigger screen with touch capabilities,
if I have to use OEM parts the final cost will be 4x times higher rather than a Chinese droid unit

If I activate carplay with OEM Fsc in entrynav2 with a 6.5-inch screen, and later update the HU to the latest version 21.03, to activate full screen carplay, do I have to insert another Fsc or is this also valid with full screen?

Car has no factory Nav. Is Head Unit ENTRYNAV or ENTRYNAV2?

Best to pop out of dash and check label. Would need to be ENTRYNAV2 and with WLAN Port on Back.
