Tire Temperature

At what temperature are the tires warmed up? Went out this morning and could feel the tires slipping. Cold this morning but not too bad.

I've been told and I've read that under 10C ( abt 50 in your system which I want to say is making me insane!) a buss is a better form of transportation.

Tire temp or outside temp? The peak operating temp of the compound if the Michelin PSS is significantly more than 50F. You can just about double that number. If you are talking about ambient temperature, then there is no such rule other than the fact that below 50F, their ability to grip and perform decreases a ton.

If i step on it when the tires are under 60 degrees the tires will light up very easily.

Careful here with DSC off and the cooler weather your asking for trouble.

Ok, I'll make it clear. This morning when I brought up the Tire temperature and PSI on my IDRIVE it read 35.1 PSI and avg. of 38 degrees on all 4. What I'm asking is What temp. should I see on my screen that will tell me the tires are warmed up? I hope this helps. Thanks for all responses.

Yup, 55 even but as usual at this hour and before coffee I would not take my word for it.

Dude, no coffee yet but I meant outside temperature. I'm getting so much shit for not having winter rubber under Peter it is starting to be an issue.

I would say I'm used to driving in the snow and ice even on summer tires but I'd say I can tell a difference after the 12C or under is seen.

The internal tire temperature is not indicative of a tire being "warmed up". That display is merely there to show you if a tire is overheating due to being overloaded / under inflated. It will not predict grip for you.

About double that number... that is why it's called a summer tire. It probably wont happen with current ambient temps...

You are over inflated, 32 psi around is recommended and will give you better traction performamce and comfort.

Moral of the story, you have to be extremely careful on the PSS in outside temps below 50F

Your tires are never going to "warm up" with those types of ambient temperatures outside, the road is too cold. If you're going to be spirited driving get a set of winter performance tires (NOT the snow and ice kind unless you are going to experience snow and ice, just a softer rubber compound).
