Will the next generation 3-series, F30/F32 live up to the hype?
What do you guys SPECULATE/THINK about the next generation of 3-series which are F30/F32. Will it be better then the E90/E92's or even better then the E46's? Will BMW move further away from their sporty and driving feel? Will it look worse or better now that Chris Bangle is gone? ETC ETC
Will the E90/E92's be better then the F30/F32 or shall technology and BMW come through? Give us your two cents |

I accidently said no, but I think so. The 335is coming out leads me to think they're still mainly focussing on performance.

Technologically speaking, yes it will be better than the current E9X. However, I don't think it will be as sporty as the current E9X and previous generations. I'm not really a fan of any new cars that are coming out in the near future to be honest.

If we are getting an almost $51,000 335is without leather seats and just a 6-speaker stereo then what's coming as a base F30/32 model would be disgraceful standard equipment-wise. BMW is already ridiculous in their penny-pinching, decontenting moves while their MSRP are actually disproportionately increasing with the cost-cutting. |

What a shock when the E90 was introduced; I couldn't have said then, but now I know that E90 > E46.
I worry about the 4-cyl. in base model over here. Whatever one says, I *hate* 4-cyl. in this class of cars. |

I voted NO and here is why:
1. The good Interior will be a major step forward with a look and feel similar to the F10 5 series 2. The bad .. Engines The N55 is no better than the N54 and more restrictive as far as any tuning goes 3. More bad .. The car will be bigger again and probably weight the same if not more 4. Even worse .. BMW will continue to not offer LSD's on non M cars while the competition namely the S4 does, thus allowing Audi to catch up and yes even overtake BMW as the better handling car My next car will hopefully be an M1... |

After thinking about waiting for the F30, I instead just placed an order for an Audi S4 after doing a couple test drives. While I'm posting on the subject, I might as well mention that the spare tire in the S4, and the oil dipstick tube helped to cement my decision. Having said all that, I'm not sure the F30 can be expected to be much more high performance than the E90. The E90 335i was a rocket versus the competition when it was introduced. With the volatile price of gasoline, government MPG regulations, and the sluggish economy, car companies in general can't be expected to crank up the performance of their cars much these days. In order to get a better performing car, you pretty much need to pony up the $$$ and get an ///M car.

I voted no for various reasons. It will most likely more expensive, heaver and more complex. I think the interior will be an improvement, but looking at the spy shots and the 5 and 7, I think we'll end up with a mini-5er, and that's something that I just don't want.
I don't think that BMW will abandon all of the sporty driving character of the 3-series (as this formula has won award after award), but I fear that as we have seen from the e30 to e36, e46 and e90; each generation has gotten larger and more complex, more efficient and forced to meet more environmental and safety regulations, and thus I expect to make the f30 not as good (but not necessarily bad) as the e90.

I'm pretty sure this has been said from year to year, I'm sure in 2004 during speculation of the E90 people said it'll be larger, heavier, not as nimble but yet, the car is still selling and looking great nearly 6 years later.

I think that BMW is going to replace the sporty E90 with the next gen 1 series and the new F30 will be more like the 5 series. I just don't get what the justification is! I hate the F10 and E60 5 series, they are both too big. I'm all about the E39 M5, it is by far my favorite car, and I think its the best car that BMW has made.
If they make the 3 series any larger than I'm going to switch to Audi.... The new RS4 and RS6 is just ridiculously awesome, while the new M5 is just blah and big... |
