I fancy leasing something

So, its going to be frugal, well equipped and small.

Specced up Einser 118D?
Another boring 3er?
Another marque?

What would you recommend, and what lease provider.

Would you actually do PCH, or go for PCP?

I think I'll let someone else take the risk of the deprecitaion if i'm to have another new car on the drive.
I'm in Somerset if it makes any odds...

Steve

Remember that, certainly on contract hire, pretty much the full value of any options specified are costed into the monthly payments of the car. Certain key options like leather and nav will add some money to the RV (but that is very funder dependant) but the general rule is, for every £1000 worth of options you throw on tou'll be adding £30-odd to aonthly payment when on a 3+35 paemt schedule.

I'd definitely be test driving the new 1er Steve. VW Polo Diesels are pretty good and the cars are well built. Cars with heavy depreciation tend to cost more per month so something a bit left field like an Alfa might not be that cheap.

What's your monthly budget ?
A mate of mine I saw last night said he's seen A6 Avants for £300 a month.
Not sure if that + vat or not.

there were some awesome deals on Volvos of most nature, and Volvo do frugal quite well....

was looking at the same scenario last month (and in the end we bought a new clio) and some of the deals on things like fiestas and fiat punto were pretty good leasing wise, although my inkling is that you are looking at something a little more upmarket, in which case you might like an A1 diesel, they were floating around at £200 ish a month inc VAT.

Whats your mileage?

We have a Qashqai on PCH for £229 including full maintenance. 10k per year. Really pleased with it.

However I do about 25k per year and PCH options for me are silly money.

The Merc range always seem mega deals on contract hire so well worth a look. also saw cheap deals on VW Golf Convertible diesels recently, think they were about £170 per month.

It seems Contract Hire is best these days, you just have to look what is on offer at the time you want to get something as the offers will change almost weekly.

Bear in mind that £100/200 a month PCH for a new small car is only achievable because the hire firm probably gets 30-40% off list for buying shed loads of them, or the manufacturer is pushing a model for whatever reason (640d anyone?) and giving subsidised cars away behind closed doors, but the used value is still the same for the discounted car or a private consumer car who paid full list, so your payments can be less for the discounted car, although you are never party to the vehicle price anyway.

In fact this bulk discounting is what makes deprecitation worse for everyone else!

But PCP is still based on your own arranged 'purchase price' down to the used value which of course will by way more than a lease firm would pay for the new car.

PCH all the way these days...

Thanks very much gents, for all the advice as I know many of you have lots of experience. PCH it is then.

Not really a firm budget, but £400pcm plus VAT seems to cover a lot of small family cars.
I have a company car and will probably try and buy out of that next year and move it upmarket.

So assuming I can offload the 335i later in the year it would be good to find a smaller or at least modern familiy car.

Also like the 'blue' Mercedes and was also attracted by the prices on offer.
Looks a lot of car for the money.

My wife really always wanted a 1er. And the new series is actaully quite a nice cabin to spend time in.

Any particular companies to look at for a BMW on PCH say 2yrs or 3yrs and 10k per annum? Cash deposit to 10k is no problem.

The annoying thing is the 7 series are a cheap lease but the wife thinks a 3er is a bit big.
Sigh...

You won't need anything like 10k deposit for contract hire. It is normally 3 or 6 payments. Also would try BMW themselves for hire as they often have deals. Think there is currently a deal on new 116 models, go to any dealer homepage and it should be listed there.

£400pcm + VAT will get you a LOT of car, especially if you get a car on special deal.

As previous, £65K 640ds are around for that price.

The silly deals on the new 6 are gone (they were SE and low mileage also)

I just got my 640d M sport (list £68k) including 12,000 miles per year and service pack for £600 a month INC Vat. (30 months)
