Yellow Battery Light Indicator but battery ok
Car:
2007 BMW 335i Coupe. Battery replaced 8/23/12 with 94R from Advance Auto. Original battery was white top with glass area to eval battery. Never registered the battery. Today, I get the yellow battery icon in the display after turning car off. I have battery and alternator etc tested at Advance Auto. All checks out ok. My 94R Specs are: Cold Cranking Amps: 765 amps Cranking Amps: 950 amp Results from Battery/Alt/Starter Test at Advance Auto: Battery Test Voltage 12.67V CCA Measure: 848 Rate: 760 CCA Starter Test Voltage: 11.94v (LOW) Amps: 19.6A Time: 6.00s Charging System Test No problems Drain Test 0.00A Normal My questions are as follows: 1. Will registering the battery fix this or does it need programmed by dealer? 2. What is the original spec of the battery in my 335i Coupe? I have the BT tool new in the box never used but I don't think this will help. Last edited by Scalpel; 12-15-2012 at 03:49 PM.. |

Just curious do you have comfort access? Perhaps the battery warning is that the key (remote) is not charged . I get that all the time because I never put my key in while driving to allow it to recharge

What was the amp hour spec?
The amp hour spec is the actual capacity of the battery.
You are suppose to match that too. Also do you drive the car regularly(for adequate distances) or let it sit around a lot. ctek 3300 battery tender is recommended for low use. Get and Indy to register the battery or get a coding setup to register the battery. Lock the car to conserve battery power. |

I would try registering the battery, but what happens when you replace a battery without registering it is that the car tries to charge it like it was the old battery and a lot of times this destroys the battery - some people have enven had the battery smoke due to overcharging because the car is charging it too much or too little. There is a good chance you may need to replace again as it has been damaged too much at this point, but registering may help.

Make sure you are not mistaking the coolant level light for a battery. It looks like a battery to me, a little box with terminals on top and some little waves that look like water inside. Gets me every time.

Yes however the battery in my FOB is a non-rechargeable. Regular C2302 button battery.

I don't get that icon. I get a rectangle yellow battery with "+" on one side and "-" on the other. |

i think that's logical. Without resetting the battery type and/or battery history thru a tool like BT, the system will assume you still have an old battery and stops charging it at a lower level as it assumes the battery will only hold that lower voltage.

Just noticed the "remote battery low" warning has a key across the yellow battery symbol... So I'm sure it's not the case in this instance... My bad
