Transmission Error
Has anyone experienced this error?
For the last few days when I park the car and put in Park this error is appearing on the Idrive. Secure vehicle with parking brake when stationary. Have the problem checked by Service Partner. This happens also when parked on level ground. The error will remain even if the parking brake is applied. No other issues are affecting the drivability of the car. |

When you attempt to engage the parking break do you hear it (you may need to roll the windows down to hear it) |

When the 'fault' appears, are you given the option, on the iDrive screen, to 'Close the Message'.
If so, I think that may not be a fault, but the car thinks you are going through the stopping 'processes' in the wrong order. On mine it comes up if I don't first apply the parking brake, or if I go into Park, but forget to apply the handbrake. It can get annoying, but it isn't a fault. It also regularly does it if I open the driver's door when I put the car into my garage - I have a limited space in front and behind because of shelving, so drive to a spot where the door edge, on opening, touches a piece of carpet I've glued to the garage wall. That also tends to cause the message to come up. So, hope that might help but, if not, then good luck with the dealer. |

Hi, I have the same strange behaviour starting from yesterday. I went to a BWM garage repair shop and they told me that they can try to reset all the computers of the car - this may help. If the error will not disappear, then they should replace the mechatronic unit of the gearbox (and this is a very expensive repair). Did you found the cause of the errors ? |

I have the same problem as the user who opened this thread (lrd300). I reply to your questions for my problem. - yes, I've coded some minor things with bimmercode app for android, but the error showed up after 4-5 days. It was on headunit NBT and it was not successful, the headunit rested freeze. Then I entered again and restored the previous coding from the auto-backup made by the app and it started again normally. - I hear a sound when engaging the parking break. Do you have a clue? Regards, |

I am picking up the car tomorrow from the dealer.
They tried several software updates but it wasn’t successful. They are suspecting that its the mechatronic “very expensive apparently” so i am going to leave like this as it’s not effecting the drivability of the car. |

I haven't experienced the problem but the transmission reset procedure in this post by ttimbo might be worth trying:

I see you’re showing as having an X2, in which case it seems you may be posting on the wrong forum as there’s a separate one for X2 drivers - the F39 Forum.
Having said that, my X1 will only start with the foot brake applied and that is a standard application on all F48 X1s, certainly in the U.K. and mechanically the cars are pretty much the same. |

Last update...
After a full factory reset of all computers, the error is still there. So, I guess I have to spend a lot of money on a new mechatronic unit. They asked BMW if, by chance, exist a service recall for this problem because they have heard that are many F48 cars with the same problem. We are waiting for an answer. I hope to exist. Does anyone heard about a service recall for this problem? |

I haven't heard anything about it, have you checked to see if there is an independent shop around that could take a look and fix it (There are typically a few that specialize in German cars)? going to a BMW shop you'll pay a bit of a premium in Labor and part cost.

I had the same issue with the 2016 X1. Brought it in to the dealer and they said it had to do with the shifter. Replaced the existing shifter with a new one and problem went away. Thank god it was still under warranty.

Shiftlock solenoid: Selector lever wrongly not locked in P
Having the same issue on BMW F46. Tried to diagnose using BMW diagnostic tool. Went through all the possible causes/fixes which included resetting the ecu’s, checking the fuses and connections, checking the emergency park release button, tracing the signal wire current which included checking current flow with brake pedal pressed and not pressed it to see if there was an issue etc.. It seems this problem is common on BMW X2 and Mini Cooper as well but no one is giving a solution. I think the fault is inside the shift so might replace the shift and see if anything changes. I’m not sure of the prices though. Because the issue is not actually affecting the cars use, I will hold on for awhile. Maybe someone will find a way soon but will keep looking.. Anyone else? Honest John has someone reporting same issue on f46 2 series GT
