X2 Tire ?
Anyone replace all four original 225/45R19 with 245/40R19 on original 2018 X2 xDrive28i (8") wheels? The 245/40 has 26.72" Overall Diameter, in contrast to 225/45 Overall Diameter of 26.97" Well within the 3% of original diameter. In fact just -0.95%. Recommended Rim Width is 8-9.5" so the 8" original rim should be good. Been upsizing wheels/tires on my Porsche's for years but this is my first BMW in awhile & experience/knowledge with the X2 is limited.
QUESTION: WILL THEY FIT? As in any rubbing etc? Thanks much! |

Great question and hope you get an answer on this forum. There are entire threads in the M2 and M3 forums dedicated to wheel and tire fitments. I too am seeking the answer to your exact question since I am about to order an X2 and my first upgrade is the rubber. Since you already own the X2 I suspect that you may just have to measure it yourself. Once my X2 gets ordered I will likely make a purchase of exactly what you are suggesting -245/40/19. Having owned a large number of BMWs I am highly confident that it will work and is very low risk to do so.
That said, you can check for yourself relatively easily. For the inside, look to make sure that there is at least 15mm of clearance between the strut and the existing tire. Then when you put on the wider tire you should have at least 5mm clearance beyond the 10mm from the wider tire. This leaves space for tire flexing while driving. For the outside the only issue that might present itself will be when you turn tightly. Steer the wheels to the point where they are the narrowest distance from the inner fender liner. Then add 10 mm with a ruler past the existing edge of the tread. If it doesn't touch the liner you are good. Even if it were to touch you might find that it only does at very hard lock which would not be a problem in normal use. Make sure you do this on both the front outer edge as well as the rear inner edge of the front tires to make sure you are covered. Risk of hitting the fender when driving over bumps is zero. The overhang of the fender relative to the outer edge of the tire is way larger than the 10mm you would consume with your desired fitment.

Yeah, I'm looking at Nokian WR G4 tires in 245/40R19 to replace my run flats. I'm waiting to see what sizes the new General Altimax 365 AW comes in as well. I was also looking into the Michelin CrossClimate2 in 235/45R19.
I basically want to replace my runflats with goflat All-Weather tires instead of having a dedicated snow setup for the X2. |

I'm loving my pilot sport as 3+
So much grip, have even intentionally gunned it through puddles and it doesn't even waggle. |

Hi all,
Hope it’s ok to tack my question here as it’s also related to swapping out the run flats for the 19inch wheel on the m35i. Does anyone know if the 255/40/19 tires will fit within the fenders width wise? I’ve checked the overall diameter and it’s within the margins. Also read up on other posts but only found comments relating to the 20inch wheels. Thanks!! |

Thanks for your reply! You’re right I forgot this specific width 255 needs minimum of 8.5 inch width.
Upon further research I will be going with 235/45/19 to replace the factory run flats 225/45/19. I want to keep the larger diameter. |
