Just installed the box from Andream (https://www.android-car-dvd.com/prod...32066140471432) for my 2016 F48. If you want to save $400 and get the same box Bimmertech sells, I’d recommend it

Try to enable wheel key on MMI settings menu.

F48 Carplay MMI

The only big problem I faced was the fact that my Head Unit did not pull out no matter what I did. Going through a lot of topics on this issue, I found that I should have had removed Central Console first. That sounded too much work! So instead I managed to reach all the cables behind the head unit without pulling it out by squeezing my hands through the glove box compartment (much easier work, only needed to release five screws and it is done!). I have placed the MMI box under the head unit (there is enough space to accommodate it). Every original BMW equipment seems to be working fine. Now I’ve got Waze and everything else that Apple Carplay offers in my BMW, even Siri is working flawlessly. Here some pics of the whole process.
Hi, I have this unit for 2017 F48 and just checking in as about to start install. You mentioned removing the glovebox and that made it easier. So after you pulled off the trim, the headunit would not slide out because of the shifter? That is why they said to remove center console I guess and that sounds like much too much work. So you just loosened the head unit so could plug in the cables, etc. from the back?

If could provide more details on process would be great

Thanks

Hi, it seems like different F48 owners had different experiences.

Some couldn't move the HU at all, others pulled out the unit completely out and others (like me) could move the HU out but not completely, still with enough space so that you can place your hand behind the HU and remove the original quadlock and then again enough space to connect the new quadlock (wear gloves, trust me, otherwise you could end up with some nasty scratches).

Remove the CD/AC trim and the two screws holding the HU. Then just try and see how far the HU comes out. If it doesn't move a bit then better remove the glovebox (no idea how) because I believe it's much easier than removing the whole center console (there is one video on youtube showing how to remove the center console).

And yes, don't forget to check if you have black/green optical cable. If yes, then move it to the new quadlock in the same place as it was on the old quadlock.

And if you want, I would highly recommend, disconnect the negative pole on the battery.

Have patience with everything and take your time.

Good luck!

I use Andream and installed in my 2014 535 and works flawlessly. I am also installing in a 2016 x5.

Wang was easy to work with from and
Andream but realize they are communicating from China and there is a delay in responding.

I ought for 250 and delivered in about 10 days.
