If you read the other responses to your original question, you will see that this has already been covered.
1. Rotate wheels back to front/front to back on the same side. 2. Adjust tyre pressures on ALL wheels according to the label on the drivers door pillar. 2. Reset the TPMS. It's all covered in your Owners Handbook, including how to reset the TPMS. End of message! Last edited by oakey46; 02-18-2019 at 02:44 PM.. |

You not getting my point. If I move my front right tyre to rear right. How does the idrive screen detect that? If my front right tyre goes bad, on the idrive wouldn't it show me rear right after rotation? idrive only calibrates tyre pressure and not its position

The sensors/transmitters in the tyre are not location aware. It's the detector/receiver in/around the wheel arch that knows which corner of the car it's monitoring. The last time I had some new tyres fitted they rotated the wheels (keeping them on the same side due to the directional tyres) and the Tyre Pressure Monitoring system was fine with it. Don't worry

An Interesting and detailed explanation given by QSilver7 in Bmimmerfest f48 forum. I have copied link below but basically the receiver/module works out which sensor belongs to which tyre from signal strength and differential acceleration/lateral load (front wheels turn as well as rotate).

There is normally only one receiver module, it is usually located near a wheel arch (rear left I believe), the sensors transmit data, the receiver/control unit translates data and feeds to HEAD Unit. In the X1 however, there is not an RDC (BMW/German term for tyre pressure monitoring) control unit, the function has been incorporated into the DSC control unit.

As on all BMWs I've owned the front tyres ware on their outside side edge where as the rears ware flat so I have always moved mine front to back to extend the life of all four tyres.
