I'm down in NYC and it's probably not as cold as up by you, but we have had about 2 weeks of temps under 15 degrees F. With that being said I never found it to be long at all but I do usually turn on the seat warmers along with the heated steering wheel which I'm sure add to the feeling that it's warm. (side note the heated steering wheel actually gets borderline hot after a while).
I generally don't blast the fan but rather just turn the temp to say 75F to get heated up and i would say in about 2 minutes the car is comfortable already. |

Or your X1 was built on a Friday afternoon and in the rush to get to the beer haus...they forgot to put a thermostat in the housing!

I have a 2017 X1 and haven't had this issue.. Mind you it doesn't get as cold here but typically I feel warm air within a few minutes of driving.

With the cold weather in the UK, my diesel would take up to 20mins to reach full temp. but lots of hot air within 5 mins. Worse when new oil is in it too, however we have the whole kidney grille blocked for efficiency which helps it warm up and stay warm.
