Driving assistant plus & Active cruise control upgrade

Hi guys,

Does anyone know if it is possible to do a "simple upgrade" to 5AT/5DF if you have 544 cruise control with braking function and 5AS driving assistant currently installed in you car?

The main request is actually the Active cruise control and making the car stay in the lane.

Look forward to your answers

Cheers

Yes it is possible but not simple or easy. The biggest problem is that BMW have used different Ecu for s544 and 5DF. For 5DF you will need to have a SAS control unit and modified DSC unit (it has an additional brake pressure sensor). If you have active suspension fitted then you will have a SAS Ecu otherwise to do the retrofit you will need.
1. New steering wheel switch
2. Wiring loom patch/modification for SAS ecu. I see no repair part listed by BMW so you will need to find an experienced BMW auto electrician to make this wiring link.
3. SAS Ecu
4. Replacement DSC unit (from car with 5DF) plus wiring from pressure sensor to loom
5. E-sys- so you can VO code the car , remove S544 and add 5DF. (Or pay someone to code for you)

Imo, you would probably need to find auto disassembler who break up cars for parts and get them to pull the SAS Ecu plus loom connection, modified DSC and wiring for you as a special order from an X1 Which had 5DF fitted at the factory.

Thanks a lot MJE60,

I have 223 Adaptive suspension but not active as you mention.
So unless its the same it sounds like a rather big deal to implement?

I believe option s223a is electronic damper control so your car should have the SAS ECU already installed. The other requirement is pressure sensor on DSC unit.
