Roof rail delete

Has anyone done a roof rail delete? I found a DIY for an X5 and the process was very simple, but I’m sure it won’t be the same with an X1.

Conversely, if I end up not liking the look with the rails removed, I’ll wrap the rails black and put them back on. Either way, I’m looking to get rid of the chrome.
