Replace instrument cluster

I want to know is the odometer value saved in ECM of the car or in the cluster itself?

I vaguely remember a couple years ago someone in these forums retrofit their cluster to get the "more digital" one that BMW went toward, which leads me to believe it's stored in the ECM. You might search on "cluster" for that thread.
