335i sedan stock vs e46 m3 stock ?

Who would win in a straight line? Cause we went for a run on closed roads and he pretty much demolished me? I would think it would have been close. Off the dig he was gone. I lost by two cars. Or is there something wrong with me car?

Even if 2 cars from the factory run the same 1/4 time it depends on the driver of the car and the condition of the car (mileage, wear, tires etc..) Both cars should be about the same 1/4 wise though.

He may just be a better driver than you, no offense. I found the 335i to be much faster on the regular roads than the e46 M3. You have to rev the M3's engine a lot to get anywhere close to the 335i.

I would think the 335i would have no problem from a dig or at low speeds. The M3 should have the advantage as speeds increase.

Yeah but if he has a manual and he knows how to shift it properly then he has the advantage there. The only good test would be if both had similarly skilled drivers with manuals. In which case the 335 should beat it from a dig but lose in the higher speeds.

Albeith a little heavier, the M3 has over 30hp advantage and LSD.
No surprises.

Unsure of the "issue" with having to rev more to produce more power: it's a race, not a third gear pickup after a speed bump at the grocery shop's lot...

the m3 should win because of the HP difference, but if it was from a dig, try to launch it better. Brake boost with DSC off (no traction control interference). Either way ithink even from a 40 roll he should have you. But AT helps just not sure if it helps enough to win.

U should also turn the traction control off, not sure if u mentioned that.

And an e46 m3 should be faster stock for stock than a 335i

Just saw a Dec 2014 video on Car Throttle website of E46 M3 vs. E92 335i...

0-100 kph (0-60 mph) shows 335i slower by 0.4 sec.
0-200 kph shows 335 slower by 0.4 sec again (M3=17.38s, 335=17.85s)

And then there are comparisons like this one

Get a JB4 or a Cobb Stage 1 and you'll smoke the e36 M3 in a straight line all day assuming the drivers are equally as skilled.

Maybe half a day.

All day means blowing the little 335 engine or turbos.

You don't give the 335i any credit!

I've personally seen a 335i with stock engine block and internals (upgraded turbo) pushing 707 wheel horsepower on the dyno.

The N54 is way more durable then you think, it just requires a bit more maintenance if you tune it.

Yes, but would you bet money against me that this 700hp dude would not race an M3 all day because the m3 would race all day, fill up the tank and drive back home, and the 335 would have to be towed?

I'm not going to get into an argument here, but I daily my 335i and it's been tuned for almost 3 years straight. 80k miles on original turbos and going strong.

To the OP - if you've got a Sport Package, grippy tires and turn traction control off, you should be able to take him 1v1 from a dig if all other things are equal.

I say sport package because you get more grip with 255 width tires in the back instead of 225's.

Like I said before the Douche with irrelevant misinformation, a JB4 or a Cobb tune and you'll take him easily assuming he's stock.

E90 335 is a faster car.
E46 only has a 10HP real world advantage. It is at a torque disadvantage.

If the E90 starts to lose traction, power will be reduced so you don't start to spin the wheels.
E90 needs a LSD to have any chance of racing an E46 around a corner.
In a straight line the E90 should win, if you put it in sport mode or shift it manually.
The AT should win because you can have no lift shifts.

30hp claimed. Look at some dyno sheets. The S54 typically dynos 280-285 at the wheels. The N54 typically dynos 265-280 at the wheels. Oh and don't forget how much more area under the curve the N54 has because of the massive low end torque.

That being said, it just comes down to who gets the hit off the start and how good of the driver the M3 driver is depending on if it's a SMG or 6MT.
