Idrive reboot F48 2018

My idrive is intermittently rebooting , not all the time but enough to worry about. Anybody else had this issues. If I take it to BMW will it be a warranty fix ? or do they charge for an update if it needs one.
Thanks

Sounds like the start of a faulty HU might need replacing.

Don't know your warranty type, but call them up & see what they say. I'd imagine since it's 2018, it would be covered since a HU shouldn't die this soon.

Options:
1. If you are outside the UK warranty period of 3 years, then you could be on a sticky wicket and have to pay if you go to the dealer. Depending on the mileage they might give you some goodwill to fix it.

If it is just outside the 3 year warranty period or still inside it, then consider the options I have given in the following post:

How old is the car? Ring up BMW UK support and ask for costs for extended warranty and work out which is best for you. At this point say nothing about the problem.

You will not hear of many reliability problems with this later modular petrol engine. It is from the same lineage as the mini engine.

In my view, it is best to go for the £100 excess wit the comprehensive warranty. The majority of people do this!

Please let us all know (feed back) on how you get on with the iDrive rebooting problem. There is nothing more frustrating than someone coming onto the forums and getting help then not following up with the result.

Thanks

Hi Tally100
I'm having the same issues on my 2016 MY. Mine appeared to happen after a windscreen replacement about 6/8 weeks ago, but I think that was just coincidence. I have done 3 trips in the last 4 weeks to Wales all journeys were affected, but strangely the whole time being in north Wales the system was fine/normal covering about 100m whilst there each time. The idrive says that the connected drive is no longer available in the vehicle, which is strange because in My BMW app it says the vehicle has a lifetime membership in Connected drive. I've tried a software update but it doesn't load, and anyway trying to load anything the idrive crashes. It's booked in at my local BMW dealership for diagnostics £130 and the meters running ££ .

Car was in the dealers last week for open hart surgery, for the idrive. After a 2 day stay and a lot of debate, they ran the diagnostics check, fortunately idrive hardware was ok but software was scrambled for no reason. Ended up having to pay diagnostics fee £129 but avoided the £160 fee the dealer wanted to charge for update. BMW agreed to cover the cost and the dealers goodwill. Also had the obligatory brake fluid change (second) £89. I said I'd never pay dealer price for this but took it on the chin.
