Have you tried downloading the latest map update onto a USB dongle?
My subscription has now expired as the car is just over 3 years old, but I recall you go into Connected Drive, where you can find an App to download to a PC or Mac (doesn't work with tablet or phone). As you still appear to be within the update subscription period (UK 3 yrs), you should be able to do it (download takes quite a long time) and the USB option updates UK and Western Europe, as opposed to any 'over the air' update which, I seem to recall, only covers UK/Ireland.

For some bizarre reason, even though my car was bought new with everything on it specified at the time of order, according to the BMW app the map update service expires nearly 3 months before the other chargeable services. In my case the car was first registered 30/9, the map update expires 29/9 and the other chargeable services (Real Time Traffic, BMW Online, BMW Connected+) expire 12/12. I've asked BMWconnecteddrive why. Await answer.

1. He will not be able to download it because it is greyed out. He needs to ring BMW Customer Support on 0800 3256 000 to see why he is not allowed to carry out the update, even though the rest of his services are still current.
If I recall you are only allowed to carry out so many updates (not sure of how many) in the 3 year warranty period. This is bizarre and really unacceptable and needs complaining about. It has been mentioned many times on the other forum I mentioned in my previous post.

2. Once he has resolved the above complaint and it is not greyed, using the download manager he should:

a. Download to a PC into a subdirectory of his choice. I use a temporary directory called Map-20210-2 for easy recognition. Do NOT do it to a USB stick. See the attachment picture at the bottom. It takes too long and is not meant to be done in this way.

b. Extract the contents to a USB as instructed at the end of the process. You may have to run setup in the in the temporary directory to achieve this.

c. Plug the USB into the car and allow it to update.

The whole process is quick and only takes at the most 30 minutes that I did yesterday after I received the message in the car that updated map data was available.

Note. When you read the Map version information in the iDrive, it says it can be updated Over The Air (OTA). Not many people have managed it and have resorted to the USB stick method.

See my photographs of before and after the USB update. Your map may not be the Way version, but the same principle applies.

Try this:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IUu...ew?usp=sharing

The link is from Bimmerscene, which you have to register on:

https://www.bimmerscene.com/Thread-Europe-WAY-2021-1

I do not see 2021-2 yet, but may be available soon.

I don't know if a new FSC code is required in your car.

A new code is required. There used to be lifetime codes available from other clandestine sites on the internet for a price. To stop this, BMW changed the software so they do not work anymore when a new map is released.
Along with this in the UK BMW dropped the price of the map upgrades to £76 making it nowhere as cost-effective to software hackers as it used to be.

There is the following excellent site if you do want cheap FSC codes and also free map updates. It is one of the best and is a great resource for all auto traders for all brands.

https://mhhauto.com/

To join some years ago it was free and you had to apply to join. It is now has a once only joining fee of approximately £10.

I updated with North America Way 2020-1 maps in March, without entering any FSC code, even after the original 3-year warranty expired in November 2020.

Quite possibly because a code lasts for 1 year (from one map to the next). I would be interested in what happens next time.
Please post your experience when you next do it!

Sorry, I meant that I updated with North America Way 2021-1 maps in March 2021.

I also updated with North America Way 2019-1 maps in March 2019.

I did not have to enter any FSC code in both cases.

So you should be able to if you have a 3-year warranty or more. If I read correctly from your details your vehicle is a 2018.
The OP is complaining that he is not able to update his UK maps when the car is less than 3 years of age and still within its warranty period. This is a valid complaint and should be addressed by BMW UK.

BMW Canada may have a different warranty process (compared to BMW UK) for updating maps, so with respect you are comparing apples with pears.

As I clearly stated, my original 3-year warranty expired in November 2020, but I was still able to update to North America Way 2021-1 maps without FSC code.

I provided a link to Europe Way 2021-1 maps from Bimmerscene so that the OP can download maps in case BMW UK does not address the complaint in time. There is no harm to try and there is no need to get hung up on chasing down the maps with less than 2 months left on the warranty.

Your statement that " To stop this, BMW changed the software so they do not work anymore when a new map is released" is clearly incorrect, without any qualification that it may be applicable to UK.

In summary, I was only trying to assist the OP with least effort. It is up to him as to whether to take it up. No bother to me either way.

It is fact and NOT incorrect. Making a statement such as that shows you do not have knowledge in this area.
I helped a compatriot for 10 years on another forum who ran the software and had the appropriate cable to generate FSC codes for BMW maps. I was involved with NBT maps for the majority of the time. He used to sell one-time yearly FSC codes to users at a price and also sold a lifetime code for more money. It was such a lucrative sideline that made the BMW official Map and BMW generated FSC code overpriced especially in the UK, so they had to drop the price and also change the algorithm so that the lifetime codes would not work after one time use.
Also, the software and the cable are for sale, and also the instructions are still freely available from the trader automotive site I gave the link to in a previous post.

Note. I have qualified where necessary that I am talking about the UK. Also the original poster is from the UK.
