M Sport X Package confusion

Hey all.

I am looking at picking up a 2018 X2 Xdrive28i and have a question re: the M Sport X Package.

Does this actually come with a suspension upgrade?

Directly from the BMW site it lists "Standard Suspension" under the package description which seems fairly straight forward. I was just under the impression that all M packages included some form of suspension upgrade.

None of the M sport packages for the core x2 that you choose on the configurator come with a change in suspension. If you want to change the suspension you need to go on the Bmw configurator and actually choose the M car that is down below, in this case of the X2 it would be the X2M35i….

I appreciate the feedback. After about an hour of further digging I came across this:

It is really poor design that some of the M Sport X Packages come with standard suspension, and others come with the M Sport Suspension. Why named them in the same package? Frustrating as a prospective buyer to try to filter/find what I am looking for this way.

Those are the M sport APPEARANCE package. You have to actually pick the m sport suspension or you need to step up to the M35i for the suspension?
That's my guess.

I may be wrong here.. but in general there are 3 types of suspension: 1) normal 2) M-sport which is lower and stiffer. This I don't know if you can select it, or you can only get it on the m35i. The last option is 3) Adaptive suspension, which I do believe it is only on the m35i with the 19" wheels only.. 20" wheels are not allowed to mix with it. It really just "stiffens" the suspension with a few settings.

In the past on the X1 models, the m sport suspension could ONLY be ordered with the msport appearance package. I do not know how the configurator goes for the X2. I personally don't feel a ton of difference, but for $600 if I could have had it, I would certainly go for the adaptive suspension vs a $600 apple wireless charger.

In the long run, it may be better that I did not get the adaptive suspension as for future any upgrades/replacements would be easier and cheaper.

Making sense of automotive marketing-speak is always an issue. The terms can mean many different things, and the details are important. You should try to dig up the material for the 2018, rather than looking at the current configurations. I bet they're different.

My recollection is that "M Sport suspension" is/was only an M35i thing, and that it refers to the springs, sway bars, shock absorbers and ride height, The M35i also has optional Dynamic Damper Control (DDC), which wasn't available on non-M35i, nor with 20" wheels.

Either way, I think the 2018 M-Sport "is what it is" and you'll need to drive it and see if you like it.

The X2 doesn't offer true adaptive suspension like the higher-spec BMWs, which is different because it responds to speed, load, etc. X2 M35i just offers dynamic damper control, which is also a great option IMO.

DDC was available on a standard 2019 x2 as an option if you chose the 19" wheels, I can confirm that because I ordered mine that way.

You're right that the M Sport X Package was only an appearance package, it offered the same performance options that you could choose in a standard x2.

The world was very different before the M35i

As stated.. since you're shopping for a 2018 model X2 you really just need to drive it and see if you like it vs the details that you can't change. Pretty much every function can't be "upgraded" after the fact without a lot of effort.

Biggest thing to me is the LED lighting for the headlights.. totally next level. I don't think it was standard until 2020 or something? I'm not sure if any other features is a real dealbreaker, but that's for you to decide.

It will change depending on region/country, but the 2018 and 2019 x2 in the US always had LED headlights

I have a 2018 X2 that has the following options:

S33A M Sport X
S71A M Sport Exterior Trim
S704 M Sport Suspension
S25P 20" LA Wheel 717M

If I recall correctly, you had to order the 20" wheel to get the MSport suspension in 2018 on a 28i.

You can confirm how the car is equipped by entering the vin on mdecoder.com

Thanks all for the responses.

I have continued digging in my quest for the elusive M Sport Suspension on the X2 X28i (option code 704 in case anyone was wondering).

I have found a small handful of them out there, but they are very rare apparently.

At this point I am wondering if it would not be easier (and cheaper) to get the M Sport X package for the appearance (which are pretty easy to find) and then put some coilovers in it.

Definitely agreed.. I mean a teeny bit lower/stiffer springs.. if you find the rest of the options/colors you like you can deal with that later... Davy put some suspension on his m35i so it's available and fits.. You could probably find factory sport springs/struts from an X1 too..

Just picked up my '22 X2 M35 with the suspension damper option and it really makes a difference in the stiffness of the chassis and it feels like the steering tightens up a bit but overall dynamic damper makes a big difference...

Now, if somebody can tell me why a 55k+ luxury vehicle doesn't come with a compass on the mirror then perhaps you explain the lack of cross traffic and blind zone monitoring...

Overall great car!!

excellent questions, you forgot Android Auto as well. The blind spot monitoring may be a deal breaker when my lease is up next year. Mrs. rounderman is pretty insistent. Otherwise I really love the car and I also have DDC which helps as much as my butt dyno can tell and it isn't very smart even if my brains are there

enjoy the ride and lets see some pictures

Had the 28i MSport X with 20inch wheels. Definitely came with M Sport lowered suspension (non DDC)
