New X1 Spotted in Camo
Motor Trend spy photos of next X1
http://wot.motortrend.com/fwd-based-...#axzz2fDBSM4fm Bye, Bye N55 engine...Next Gen X1 will likely not have a breathed-on I6. The character line/crease seems to be more pronounced in new version, but round taillights have to be prototype only as L shaped lights are the norm on current BMWs. Note the dual exhaust.... And hyraulic steering will probably be MIA as well. |

It's based on the UKL platform, which will be fwd with transverse engines and be the basis of the next 1er, X1 and the Mini Countryman, among other things. Volvo is the only company I can think of to transversely mount a straight six, but I think it's fair to say that the next X1, rumored to be a MY17 release, won't have a turbo six.

It's not coming until 2016 as a 2017 model. Countryman will probably arrive a year earlier, can't introduce them the same time. BMW usually has 7 year cycles so 2010-2016 is 7 years on the X1 (model years). The 2009 intro was a 2010 model.

Looks like they're fallen for the small-rearwindow fad, like many other manufacturers including Ford. Aping Range Rover, but not daring to take it to the same extreme.
No thanks - I like leaders, not followers. |

Hearing about the new X1 makes me happy that I ordered a 2014 when I did.
As the government regulations about fuel economy get tighter we are going to have less and less choices. In Colorado the low powered engines just do not work in the mountains. They make for a very uncomfortable ride as the transmission hunts for a proper gear. |
