Update

I heard today, unofficially, that BMW is awaiting regulatory approval of the fix (b pillar part), which should be received quickly, and that the parts (for all 100,000 2016-2019 x1s) should be released in August.

So do you think that means that the stop sell will be lifted in August also?

I put a deposit down on a 2019 X1 before I knew about the stop/sell and recall issue.

Hello, I hope that what I heard is true, and that this matter will be in the past for current owners and for new orders by the end of August or so. I am working on getting another update, and if I hear anything, I will post about it.

Put a deposit down on one today and will pick it up on Wednesday. No recall here and the first the dealer heard about there being one in the US was from me, so it’s not even on their radar. It’ll be interesting to see if the recall ever does affect non-US vehicles.

US (unofficial) update: a lot of news is expected to be released about the recall within the next 30 days.

What do you mean? Just that they will be fixing with a trim piece ? Or something else ?

He also, confirmed that BMW indicated that parts are to start and trickle in beginning of August but none have been allocated to his existing inventory as of yet.

Hello! I have an update for you! Apparently, the dealerships are starting to receive the parts to make the repairs this week. My dealership received them yesterday and made the repair to my X1 also. The stop sell has been lifted too! I was able to take delivery of my new X1 yesterday.

Hopefully all other dealerships are receiving the parts this week as well.

Interesting. I hope you’re right. I spoke to BMW USA, and too 2 different dealers(different states) today, and all 3 had the same story...we have no idea when the fix will be available.

Here are a couple of pictures, obviously since this is my first BMW X1 I'm not sure how to even see the difference but this is what my B pillar looks like right now.

**edited** sorry but I'm not sure why the photos are sideways but if you right click and open in a new tab they straighten up.

Question Recall Number19V349

I live in Montreal, Canada and I haven't heard about the above recall. Can anyone give me some information. Since my dealership in Montreal hasn't heard about the call. I understand that Canada is up-North but it is not the far far North. Thanks

The recall only applies to US-market vehicles. My dealer hadn't heard about it either until I mentioned it, but confirmed it doesn't affect Canada at this point. Checked my 2019 VIN today on bmw.ca and no recalls are showing as open. So until and unless you hear different from BMW Canada, you're not affected.

I’m not sure if it was only the passenger or both but regardless both b pillars have that little bump thing on them and from what I can tell from photos that was the fix.

any other updates from folks?

I'm still waiting to buy one off the lot and the dealer won't sell it because it hasn't been fixed yet.

I learned today that the recall repair letters are being sent out for owners to bring their vehicle to the dealership for repair. The letters aren’t being sent out all at once, so the dealerships don’t get overwhelmed. All the letters should be sent out by the end of this month (August). Good news.

BMW has released parts but they are Vin specif so only the Vin coded for those parts are being fixed.
