So even if mine arrived on 31st December it will be registered straight away.
The dealer wants it for their 2015 sales targets. If the car doesn't arrive until January then it is down to the dealer and I benefit by getting a 2016 car (although actual plate won't change). I think it does make a small difference to the resale value but then I did get a discount on the new price.
May I be rude and ask how much of a discount they have you to get it registered in 2015?

I got just over £1500 off.
When I went to do the deal, 2 specific online brokers were offering discounts which I showed to my local dealer. I didn't expect them to match the prices but they went some way towards it and I thought they were really fair.

Got (bad) news regarding the delivery:
It was supposed to happen last week of December but was postponed to mid-February (not a big surprise).

The given reason was: "delays related to the diesel engine". Series 2 with the same engine also are delayed, dealer told.

The order was placed early/mid October.

That sounds a bit worrying I think we have the same engine on order. I will be interested to hear what my dealer tells me when he gives me an update later in the week.

Are you in Europe or the US? My understanding is they have factories in both sides of the Atlantic.

In the good old UK. My understanding is that all of the X1's are built in Munich these days.

Well had a call from dealer today, states the car should be with them by Friday. They are aiming to get it ready by Tuesday or Wednesday next week, just in time for Christmas!!

Update: now for delivery to dealer week 53. BMW UK have offered to reduce the list price by £500. I asked my dealer to match this on the proviso that the car was registered in 2015 but they have refused. I have asked them to therefore delay the registration until 2016 but not sure I have the right to do so. Any thoughts?

I wonder what would happen if you were away after Christmas for a couple of days and the dealer couldn't contact you?
I can't help wondering if they are allowed to register it in your name without you signing something?
Don't take this as factual because I really don't know. Does anyone else?

Edit - Forgot to mention - confirmed I am picking mine up on Monday at 3.00pm

Update - My car is now in the UK and set for delivery to the dealer next week. Dealer is REALLY keen for it to be registered this year and as such they have offered a £700 discount to make this happen.

Whilst it's not as much as i'd like, it's an offer i've accepted. Will post some pictures when the car arrives.

Looks like delivery next week. Dealer needs it this year for his targets so I think they'll get the car here if they have to go and collect it themselves. They've even offered to delivery it to the house if I can't get to them!

The other bonus is they've reduced the cost of the gap insurance and also reduced the finance rate so whilst the car is over 2 months late, it's saved me a large wedge of money. Fingers crossed for next week.

Well Tuesday arrived quickly, got my X1, so manufacturing delays appear to be resolved. Dealer actually took delivery a day earlier than they expected it. Less than 8 weeks from order to delivery. Well happy with my choice of spec and colour. Will do a post with pictures and spec in time.

Congratulations! Please post pictures when you have the time.
Only 8 weeks? That is amazing! Most of us are waiting much more than that.
What is your configuration?

Finally picked mine up yesterday (ordered July 6, due Oct 24, delivered Dec 22). Very pleased with it, especially the very comfortable ride which the electronic damper control is probably contributing to. Will get to work on BMW UK after Christmas in expectation of a substantial goodwill gesture to make up for all the anguish.

They gave me a new 320d for 2 months and a £700 good will payment off our new car.

Good news is that it's at the dealers today and I'm collecting it at 9am tomorrow.

Hope you enjoy your new car.

Picked up the the new car this morning. Only 5 miles under my belt driving it home but first impressions are good. Just as I'd hoped.

Petrol engine is quiet and drives really nicely. 19" wheels drive fine. Look awesome.
