Interestingly, the rear view camera is one of the options I didn't tick. So am still none the wiser.

In the UK the UK customer services can give me no update. The dealers use an MS Dos screen (think 1980's word processing) to update me. For now it shows a revised delivery date of week 46.

I'd be a lot happier with an explaination of where my car is, why its late, and a date I can collect.

For now I must just sit tight and wait........

But I am considering jacking it in and looking at an Evoque instead.....but I may be jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.
Interesting if the backup camera is not the culprit...
Seems you ordered a petrol version, so no VW-like quality check on diesel either.

That's very frustrating not to know when we get our toys...

Also considering Evoque, but way more pricey here in France at least. Did you drive the new one ?

Given that there are delays, what wait times are you all experiencing. We are looking at an X1 maybe to replace Mrs W's F56 MINI that has been written off this week, but need something fairly quickly.

Manufacturing delays

After weeks of frustrating silence, BMW UK now tell me 6,000 assorted BMWs and Minis worldwide are affected by "parts supply and logistics" problems at three major factories - Dingolfing and Regensburg in Bavaria and Oxford in UK. On the BMW tracker system they get as far as "Assembly complete" then progress no further. In the UK 470 cars are affected, with more than 100 of these put back by at least four weeks. Some of these, including mine, face delays of eight weeks or more. How quickly Teutonic efficiency can turn into an omnishambles.

Like Toby Coombes above, I ordered an X1 2.0i X-line in July with delivery promised in time for the car's launch date - October 24. The VIN readout shows it was built on September 23 but delivery is now looking like early December. No rear-facing camera on mine but there are forward-facing ones in 5AS Driving Assistant including one that detects speed limits and puts them into the Head Up Display, which I'm looking forward to. Eventually...

Alright. This is bizarre. I placed my order on 19th AUG. Expected delivery Week 44. Picked up my car on 24th OCT (launch day), even though it was delivered to my dealer a week earlier than that (I was out of town).

This is my build, if anyone wants to do a direct comparison with their delayed car:

Andyurq it seems our cars were showing as complete at very similar dates. I wonder if perhaps the issue is that we ordered petrol engines? My dealer (Sytner Chigwell) had at least 3 diesels delivered for its launch on the 24th October.

Have BMW UK proposed any form of compensation to you for the delays?

Mine is stuck as well, is a diesel, and was reported built on October 7. So culprit can't be the Diesel engine...

No, Toby, BMW say they won't consider any form of compensation until cars have been delivered to customers and they know the extent of the delays. Obviously worth exploring thereafter...

For those waiting for their delayed X1s, you can download an owner's manual as a 297-page pdf (albeit for an X1 sDrive28i on the US market) which will at least let you preview what you're eventually going to get.
https://carmanuals2.com/get/bmw-x1-s...s-manual-63438
Ignore the 'Start Download Now' teaser and instead use the blue Download button below the File Size info.

That's the outgoing E84. Not F48.

F48 28i manual can be downloaded directly from BMW USA website: http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...modelcode=16XB

Sorry KPD, my mistake. With it being dated 2015 I assumed it was the F48. Hope you're enjoying yours.

Hi everybody,
new guy here with an F48 on order which should have been built last week - have not heard from my dealer yet. We will see. My F31 serves me well enough until delivery, so no stress there.

Anyway, the manufacturing delays seem to be caused by the supplier of the LED-taillights. The supplier is not able to cope with the demand and now BMW is trying and supporting him.

Source (German/Bavarian Newspaper): http://www.mittelbayerische.de/wirts...rt1308136.html

Customers should not notice the delays - that's what BMW says...

Regards,
Thomas

andyurq, no worries. I was all over the US website waiting for the F48 manual. Got the interactive version on iPad as soon as I got my VIN in the end. They only put up the PDF file after launch (24th OCT). Great car. Hope the production issues are fixed and you guys can pick up yours soon.

aerials, very interesting. This explains why there are all sorts of models, with and without camera, affected. ALL versions have LED tail light. So it makes perfect sense.

Thanks for the article, for those of you without the time this is the translation from Google Translate:

BMW Regensburg : When X1 it jerky .

Punctually for the built in Regensburg new BMW X1 missing taillights. But delivery should not be compromised .

Production of the new BMW X1 in Regensburg does not run smoothly. It selectively missing parts, said the spokeswoman of the work, Birgit Hiller, on Tuesday to demand. She points out that the SUV will X1 sold very well since its launch on 24 October. The Regensburg plant daily builds 500 copies of the X1, which is almost half of the total daily production.

The missing parts are by MZ information especially around taillights. The supplier could not produce the quantity required. So you have some of the vehicles - figures are not mentioned - between parked and be equipped later with lights. For some groups of employees, this means more work. It is still unclear as to when finished retrofitting or production will run smoothly. BMW is loud Hiller in supporting the subcontractor going to be able to produce the quantities required.

Hiller stressed that the customers of the bottlenecks nothing felt. The delivery time for the X1 lies at around three months. Delivery dates are not endangered. The X1 is new in the production program of the Regensburg plant. The predecessor came from Leipzig.

This is good news - I was starting to be concerned that there was a fundamental problem with the underlying car. If we just have to wait for some lights....I can understand that.

I have to question why BMW UK can't pass on this type of information though and why I have to find it on Forums like this instead?

Thanks again Aerials for the link.

Hi

Some positive news today from my sales agent: seems my car has passed this parts shortage step now and should leave Germany this week. I now can access the drivers manual through the app which I couldn't as of next week.

Sounds like a positive news but I'll get excited once I have a delivery date for sure...

Are you in the UK ?
I had a call from BMW today they said I should expect another 8 weeks in delays due to delays in part. I suspect it's to do with UK emission check.

My car is x1 Sdrive 18d.

I don't believe there is any concerns with the emissions I think the only part delay seems to be the reported delay in the supply of the rear led lights.

Mine is now 5 weeks late but they have told me it was due to have the delayed parts fitted this week to be here in about another 2-3 weeks.

I agree - I don't think it has anything to do with emissions. I ordered mine on 22/07/2015 and I now have confirmed delivery on the 14/12/2015
