I'm upgrading my HiFi amplifier and Subwoofers. In the F48 (2016 - 2020) Is there is a fuse dedicated to the amp, HiFi etc....and what number is it?

Where is the fuse box located in the 2016+X1

Disconnecting the Negative terminal of the battery looks to much like work lol.

Check in the glove box - in the back is a small door for access to the fuse box.

Can't help ya on what/if there is one for the amp itself but curious because one of my next mods is upgrading amp (already did speakers) but in same boat as you, getting to battery is a b!tch lol

Just "bite the bullet" and disconnect a battery terminal... for yours and the cars safety. The last thing that you want to have happen is an electrical "fault" that trashes a module or frys a cable. This ain't your mothers old Chevy. *Hint: Disconnect the negative cable where it connects to the car body stud and wrap this terminal with a rag or electrical tape. There will be a spark when you do - don't freak!

I'd also much rather reach into the engine bay vs trying to pull a fuse in the glove box ... Even if it's empty it kills my back and neck to try to figure out which one it is and pull it.

Not apart but from pictures body negative looks to be next to the strut tower by the cross brace. Just as easy either end once I get to this point.

@ Bcborn59... Your location is correct; the other end of the battery negative cable is connected to the base of the negative jump-start terminal (silver post).
If you choose to disconnect at the battery, the negative lead has the IBS (intelligent battery sensor) electronic module attached at the terminal and requires care to avoid damage by mishandling.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Given the work you are doing especially under front seats, the risk of accidentally activating airbags or triggering module faults is too high. Please disconnect the battery.

Hi Bcborn59, it's much easier than you think it is.

I used the same blog you posted above and just went through steps 1-3 to get to the battery.

I first removed the rubber sealing strip as shown in step 1. As said in the blog just "peel" it off. Then remove those 3 pins. There's an explanation in the blog on how to remove them, I didn't read this part and wanted to pull them out with force which I luckily didn't manage, and then I read the explanation on how easy it is to remove them, just if you know the right way. Finally I just removed the ventilation tray cover as described in step 3 (go easy with this part since it's a large one-piece plastic cover, and I did have a feeling it could easily break). It's a bit tricky to put this tray cover back once you're done, but just take your time.

I didn't have the battery cover as described in step 4, so after step 3 I already saw the battery and just removed the negative terminal.

This all took me around 2-3 minutes.

Looks pretty straight forward. I have a 2005 330Ci M that I have had to pull trim, know how detailed BMW is in fine fitting their parts.

This is a great resource, no need talking more stuff apart than you have to.
