Custom BMW add-on blind spot mirrors
Hi all,
I originally posted this over in the F30 forums as a 3 series owner. It has gotten a lot of interest and I figured I would post here, as it might be interesting to X2 owners. I recently had ax X2 as a loaner during service and I found myself having a bit tougher than average time seeing out of it. Here is the link to my original post: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1690558 Here is my original post: Quote:

how hard and how easy are they to put on and off. mine is leased so I assume I will need to remove for turn in in a couple of years. Also I don't consider myself very skilled (or have a lot of patience and fine motor control). The price seems pretty good particularly since they look like they belong
Thanks in advance for comments advice, etc. |

Well I didn't wait - been looking for a decent rear visibility aid, and these sure fit the bill!
I ordered at noon (EST) on Friday, and got the shipping email just one hour later. With the holiday weekend, it arrived via USPS today. These are quality units, nicely fitted and with thin bezels, plus the mirror itself is glass, not plastic. They have 3M tape to install, and the back is hollow so they'll fit tightly. Totally two thumbs up. Only one thing - I can't install them due to the weather here! I'll need a dry warm-ish day. But here's a snapshot to admire in the meantime... BTW, it's pretty much impossible to take a photo of a convex mirror without getting yourself and your phone in the frame! |

Very easy to install, just clean the glass, peel off the backing and stick 'em on.
Removing is a one-time thing, they don't really peel off and you'd have to use a razor blade to remove them and then clean the mirror surface. But I wouldn't even bother doing that on a lease. If the dealer wants to remove them, it can be done with no damage. |

I also contacted the factory and they got back to me in a couple hours even east coast versus west coast. I plan on a pair and will install probably late March/April, still cold and wet in western NY
Thanks on the lease turn in tip, first lease on a personal car, others were through my business at the time so I am on the hook. As an aside, driving in to work this morning I couldn't help smiling, I really like this car. It suits me |

I slapped a set of these on my two cars at home. The wife said it's not bad... I also have to say the same. It's not lifechanging for me, as I think I have my mirrors adjusted very well. What now I need to get used to is the fact that when I would normally see a chunk of a car in, there's now the mirror with the tiny image of a LOT more of the car. It's a little picture in picture. So yes now I can see a lot more in a smaller image. Still, I think it's a nice quality piece for sure!

Glad to hear everyone seems to like them so far!
I think it took me a solid week of fiddling with the mirrors to find my 'perfect positions' and also knowing right where I want to look and when. Kinda like first getting bifocal glasses, it was a little awkward at first and now very helpful. When I drive my wife's Audi with just plain mirrors, now that I am so used to these, it honestly feels very strange now. |
