Problem adding Canadian X1 to myBMW app [solved]
Hi all,
My wife’s compensation package includes a company car with personal use as taxable benefit. For the last three years this has been a 1.5L Ford Escape, which was serviceable if boring. She just received a 2020 X1, and we are loving it. I am trying to set up the myBMW app, which presumably allows remote start and other functions, but seem to be hitting a roadblock. I downloaded the app to her iPhone X (from the Canadian app store), and created the required login credentials. I noticed that the login is processed via bmwusa.com, although we are in Canada (Montreal). When I proceeded to the “Add Vehicle” page, it only seems to accept US addresses. I tried entering a US address to get past this, but then get the attached warning. I have not proceeded past this, for fear that it could mess up Canadian services registered by the fleet management company. After getting to this stage, I could not find any way to update my address information to change to our Canadian address. The logical thing to do is have my wife contact fleet management for advice, but I thought I’d ask here to see if I’m missing some simple solution. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, VW Last edited by Van Winkle; 07-07-2021 at 02:37 PM.. |

Ok I figured out the problem. On my first launch of the iPhone app, I was prompted to register a new account. For some reason, even though I downloaded the app from the Canadian app store, the site I was taken to was linked to the US customer database. I subsequently found the Canadian web page for creating an account, but had problems because my email address (now also my BMW ID) was already linked to the US customer database.
The solution was to create a new BMW ID on the Canadian web site, which has to be accessed directly with a web browser (I also had to use an alternate email address). The moral appears to be that creating a new account directly from the app does not account for country selection. I also emailed BMW web support, who were able to delete my US profile the same day. Now everything works fine, except my wife is pissed that remote start is not available like it was on the Ford 🙄. |

When I bought my BMW X1, the dealer (BMW Toronto) registered an account for me.

My mistake was creating a new user profile from scratch out of the iPhone app (which would have been ok if we were in the US). |
