Gap between hood and grille?
Hi all
I was just at the BMW dealer, looking at the X1s and noticed that the gap between the hood and the grill was smaller than the ones I have on my car. I didn't pay much attention to it until now that I saw other comparable X1s... I have attached some pics... Can you guys confirm this? I mean I know there should be a gap, but it looks too big after looking at other new X1s... |

If it is too big, it is probably only a 1/16”. I would check if rubber stops can be tightened down slightly or that latch lock is sticking very slightly (grease it). My car is dark so gap is less noticeable but probably no smaller.

Looks fine. It may be exaggerated by the white paint, and may look tighter on black cars. Why don't you take a picture of those you think are tight?

I'll go back into the dealers and take some photos... On a side note, I have read on some other forums of other cars that there's a way to manually adjust either the hood....or the bumper by doing some basic screw work... Anyone have any ideas? |

I’d be cautious about looking to make any adjustments yourself, especially if the car is still within warranty. I feel sure that, if you make any adjustment, you would break any paint ‘seal’ around bolt heads or mounting brackets and it would immediately become obvious to the dealer service department that you’ve tried to make a ‘fix’ yourself. Probably not worth the risk and, looking at my 12 month old X1, the gap looks pretty much the same as in your pics and not worth being concerned about.
Also, as an afterthought, are the bonnet/hood sides flush level with the front wings? They are on mine and if they are the same on yours there’s no need for further concern. Last edited by oakey46; 03-24-2019 at 09:13 AM.. |
