Navigation Issues: Wrong freeway sign or lane arrows displayed
hi all, wondering if anyone else is experiencing the wrong freeway signs being indicated/displayed on the nav. here is what happens to me:
I'm going North on the 405. I am approaching an exit to the right for the 10 East freeway which I am supposed to take. However, my nav will instruct me to continue on the 405 North and even show arrows on the left lanes. Then at the last second it tells me to go on the 10 East pretty much too late if I didn't already know. The same goes for the following: traveling North on 405. Approaching the 605 freeway but I am supposed to remain on the 405. On the nav I get a sign for the 605 freeway (which implies to take the 605) however the lane arrows are indicating to stay on the 405 which is the correct route. The incorrect directions show up on both the HUD and the screen displays. Does this kind of thing normally get corrected through sw updates? or is there a way to report these errors? |

Sounds like a map problem to me. If you complain now while the car's still very new you might be able to argue for a free update when its released next.

This isn't unique to BMW, unfortunately. The thing is that the navigation software doesn't act intuitively. For example, if there are multiple turns coming up with a short interval between them, the arrows will guide you in one direction (to avoid a turn that you're not even considering) and then quickly change for the next turn. This always happens when driving West on I-70 in Columbus and changing to OH-315 N. The navigation system signs say to follow I-70 W until you are right at the exit for OH-315, then it changes.
Best rule of thumb -- zoom out on the map to see where the navigation is ultimately guiding you through an intersection and use common sense. I always try to get an idea from the route list prior to entering an area with lots of turns in a short time frame.

forgot to mention that this occurs when the nav screen changes to alert you which lane you need to be in and also on the HUD whenever you are about to exit or make a turn. Therefore i don't think there's an option to zoom in/out at this time cause the nav menu is not available.

Which main screen configuration are you using? I use the split screen for the arrow display, and then the map display for the main. This allows you to zoom out on the main display while displaying the arrow on the side/split screen.

Navtech was awesome. This new map vendor says... Prepare to turn left. Turn left in 100 feet. Turn left in 50 feet. Turn right Now! |

The truth is that most navigation systems have their issues although your issue is one I don't find on my portable Garmin. LA is a tough area to negotiate and it's good that you know where you are going. You have to use your common sense at times and ignore the nav when it does stupid things.
