Anyone using the new My BMW app?

See it’s available now in the iOS App Store in USA. Curious if anyone has used it and how it compares to the connected app?

This post goes into detail. The only thing I've found that is different in terms of functionality is not being able to sound the horn....

Alrighty installed it. It’s just ok. I expected something nicer tbh. Gas level and projected mileage IS there. Only thing I see missing right now is the horn and the info around enabled services.

Just noticed that I am also not seeing recent destinations anywhere in the new app, unless I am missing it.

Yep. Installed it today and transferred my X2 to it and everything is there except horn.

Is it black/white/gray colors for everyone, or based on vehicle color? It's kind of underwhelming, in terms of this being their new and 'improved' app.

The new app is not bad. I have started using it. Looks newer and more modern. Not sure if it is better. Yes no horn feature (but I admit I never used that). With that stated, I have noticed that it no longer tells me my sunroof is open on the status feature. I opened everything and tested it side by side. It told me doors, windows, trunk and hood, but not sun roof. Connected drive told me about the sun roof. I also noticed connected drive would say tire pressure is ok, along with oil. The new app only does oil.

I am sure they can add in these features. So so far so good.

When I use this app, the only options I seem to have are
Lock
Unlock
Flash lights
Switch ventilation on.

I can also find destinations and send to car.

Other than that, what else can I get and how do I get it?

It's a 2016 F48

The options on the new app and old app are more limited on the 2016 F48 vs some of the newer vehicles. I have both a 2016 F48 and a 2018 F30 340. I am sure this trend continues in the newer and more expensive vehicles. My 340 loads up a whole bunch of features remotely. I have mileage, gas levels, a status update (with oil, whether doors windows are closed, car is locked, service update dates, etc). The F48 will give me some more info if I plug my phone directly into the vehicle and then open the app (so not much remote or over the air functions). I should point out I only have checked the plugged in features with connected drive. In our case the F48 has been adopted by my teen driver so I don't get to drive it that much, so I have not played around much with the new app on the X1. Hope that helps.

Cheers. On the previous app if I plugged in, I also got the mileage and fuel levels.
But on the new app I don't even get that!

I wonder if bmw is slowly phasing out the non-remote things. I mean honestly once I realized that I had to plug it in to see mileage and fuel when I certainly could just look at the dash, I realized it did not add much. The app did not even remember the settings once unplugged. Maybe this is what they call progress !!!

I have both of those on my new App. Can also look up a destination on the Map tab and send that to the car. Effectively, little difference from the previous App, but just an updated, less dour appearance.

My wife has a recent Apple iPhone and there's more information such as which windows and doors are open. It also shows fuel and range. My Samsung S10 which is 1.5 years old now...shows less information than hers. There's no horn function however the map function is much easier to use. Here in Canada we have full map function available for 4 years included with the Executive package and the bigger screen. The map function shows the location of the vehicle and mileage of the car. The new app doesn't show the tires on Android just yet...

So with all these minuses to the new My BMW app, does anyone have a reason to move to it over the far more functional older Connected app?

I'm not seeing the incentive to use it.

Because soon enough you won’t have a choice. Forget the exact date they are killing off the old app, but happening so might as well migrate now.

Edit to add: EOL June 2021 is the stated date right now.

On one of the other threads I am on, one of the forum members reported that the connected drive app would be continued but was just not going to be really updated. I can not of course verify that point. Regardless, there seems no doubt that the new app is the supported app going forward.

Probably one of those things where the app will keep working while the backend services remain as they have been. But once they change, the new app will continue to be updated and work, but the old app will fall over.

So in the app does the gradient match the color of the your vehicle? I am wondering if my app looks so monotone because my X1 is dark gray.

Are you talking about the background color? If so it does not at least change between my two vehicles. I have a white vehicle and a silver vehicle and the background color is the same on both pages "in the garage" link in the app. The vehicles themselves of course look exactly like my BMWs. Not sure if that is what you are asking.
