A semi debadge at the rear .....
On all my cars I have always done a full Debadge, I don’t like plastic things stuck to the sheet metal. However with this car I really like the M badge. But the back of the car the way it comes from Bmw, to me has entirely too many letters and nomenclature. So I moved the X2 over, and then centered the whole shebang. Everything measured about five times to make sure everything was centered , spaced and parallel level. Tip: Use 30 pound fishing BRAID to saw off the badges, it cuts right through the adhesive, goo gone gets the rest of it, this adhesive is very easy to peel off with your fingers.
Not concerned if this changes the designation of the car from a M style to a full M, that wasn’t my intent, I really could care less about that. I just think it looks much better and you may feel differently, and that’s OK too! This is all temporary, because I’ve ordered the matte black lettering for my permanent look. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...0?ie=UTF8&th=1 Before and after:

mmm, not sure how i feel about this.
it's not a true m model and it's a bit misleading and poseur-ish to take an m-performance car and turn it into an m car that doesn't exist.

I completely understand.I knew that would be a possible response, but it’s not a concern to me ;at 70 years old I’m hardly out to prove that I have an M , I’ve already owned several And worked/retired for BMW North America for 20 years.. I just don’t like all the lettering across the back, In fact ,when my black lettering gets here I probably will go with just the M badge on the back, no “X2” letters....

Finally not the oldest poster around here, Yay Glen BTW 67 next month, so Davy, get off my lawn
as to the badging its your car, your choice, since I currently lease I am not doing a lot of mods to the car (that can be seen, bimmercode is my friend) enjoy the car. This is probably the most fun car I have driven regularly had a firebird in the day, Celica, a t5 Volvo stick (it moved) a few Saabs, and a 2013 335 stick. Like this much better and it is definitely faster too (okay I am still immature at heart) stay safe everyone |

Mine is a lease too...lol… I know what you mean about a minimal # of mods....So I’ve kept all the letters that I’ve taken off and I’ll put them back when I return the lease next year.… 3m trim tape is a wonderful thing......Thanks for the comments…

I wonder if, at 50, I might be 3rd in the Elder Statespersons' line around here. This car seems to have across the board appeal, age-wise...within a very small audience anyway Edit: just saw the B'day next month bit, mine as well! 51 in Feb.

Let us know if you get upbadge shamed for it.. it would be hilarious. I have had only one person ask about the m35i badge since they thought the X2 had only one variant.
To me at least the badging is on each side of the trunk.. but I am not sure if either format is really better or worse. I also think it is neat that the badges are that cerium or whatever they call it color (to match the grill and side mirrors), so making it black is also a maybe for me. |

During the summer, I was asked twice about the model of my car.
A person thought it is a M model. I had to explain. The other person seems to know about BMW, but he didn't know that the X2 M35i exists. About upbadge shame, there is a Facebook for Montreal BMW owners. They have fun to put upbadging pictures they see on the road. I am sure that I'll get comments someday for the 3 colors trim that I put on the front grille. But I don't care. It looks good to me. I forgot to say that the way you put "X2 ///M" looks good. Perhaps that I am used to it, I just feel there is something missing on the left side to balance it. Last edited by trnguyen; 01-21-2021 at 04:33 PM.. |

My wife believes it's a M car. I think that's typical reaction from most people, if they even notice it.
Personally I have no issues with that arrangement, it does clean up the rear a bit. Seems like people are more uptight about badging in the US, in Europe or elsewhere if someone put a M badge on a 20i model with M sport pkg, I doubt there would be much shaming. Let us know how those black badges work out. BTW which 3M adhesive would be best for something like this, would VHB make it difficult to remove? |

i use 3m...easy on, easy off...more than enuf strength to attach for years
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I get what you’re saying about balance, when I get the black badges I might put the X2where it originally was , and the M badge on the other side. We’ll see how it looks.....

I took the X2 off the first day I got the car. I'm "this" close to taking the "i" off as well and just leaving the M35. Almost every BMW I see has the i at the end, seems redundant
I'm 45 and I don't care what other people think though, it's my car.

Mine's on order. Can Not Wait to get it. Needed something different and this was it. When I was in high school, the VW GTI was such a hot car. I had an old Buick... This is my way of saying "screw you" to the Buick. |

Just saying that other people are debadging the rear end too and not everyone cares what other BMW owners think about it. Sorry, internet writing, it was supposed to be a little tongue in cheek given we were all also talking about our ages at the same time. In rereading it I see it maybe didn't come across that way, sorry.

From 2002-2014 I had 3 GTI's (MK's IV,V,VI) and a MK VI Golf R before going to BMW in Dec 2014. They were ridiculously fun, especially after a lil' touch up from the fine folks at APR. That MK VIII Golf R looks like a winner, so much so I may switch back in 2023.

I thought that the Golf's have always had "style". Although I did drive my brother in law's MK7? Golf as the last one I have driven. It was decent, but driving it didn't really give me any excitement. Being manual Transmission it certainly did give me that warm fuzzy feeling though. I had considered the golf R but the audi/VW drive feeling just doesn't really do it for me as of late. I think my 99 s4 manual was the last Audi that I really loved the drive experience with. I've gone through so many different cars and brands, and each certainly has their strong points. The X2 is a hoot though, and I would certainly say if they had a rwd biased transmission it would be that much better!

Found a black m badge from my M3 in my workshop, I think by the time I get the black X2 on the other side, this will be a nice look. mini black m badges on the cowls compliment well....M fender badges being used by BMW on the euro x1 and the mesh x2 treatment here so its a oem variation.

There are many reasons people de badge their cars. In the UK you can (or could when I had my last 3 series) specify model deletion as an option when the car is built. Not on all series might I add. a. Some specify it on a low specification car, hopefully fooling others into thinking it is a high spec vehicle. Naturally, the BMW aficionados are not fooled. b. Likewise, others have a high specification and wish to hide the fact and use it as a Q car or sleeper as it is sometimes called. c. Others like the clean look on the rear. Each to their own. As for age. Both wife and I will be 79 in July. We are due to have our COVID 19 vaccination on 30th January. We have had to wait as we are fit for our age and walk (quite fast) around 6 miles a day weather permitting.
