Looking ways to improve ride quality on X2 m35i

Hi there -

I have had my X2 m35i for almost a year, and there are a lot of things I love about it, but... I find the suspension super jarring and my head bounces around way too much. Perhaps if the roads here in California were as perfect as they are in Germany, this would be the perfect car.

Would changing the springs help? Any other ways to make the ride quality smoother?

thank you!

The first and cheapest thing you can do is check your tire pressure, run a pound or two underneath what the door sill info requires…

Garage List
As soon as the factory tires got down to 4mm, I replaced them with goflats. I have to deal with winter so I got Michelin All Season Pilot 4S tires. I also made a temporary spare tire in case of flat.

Might be sacrilegious to say this about a M-variant automobile but if dropping psi a bit doesn't help out your heartburn with the car's ride then your next step should be to look at putting more rubber on a different wheel. Going to a 19" wheel would probably help you out. You've not next to zero tire cushion with a 20" wheel & with the tires being run-flat types.

Going to 18" go-flats will really smooth out the ride.

I actually have a set of 19" wheels that I use for my snow tires, which are go-flats. I have a spare too. Perhaps when my summer tires wear out, I could try getting some 19" go flat summer tires and see how that goes.

Sounds like a good plan & you're poised to be able to give it a go with stuff in your posession.

I find mine amazingly compliant considering it has 20” rims with RFTs & I’m in the UK and you know what our roads are like! I do run them at around 10% below the pressure shown on the door pillar as it’s usually only me in the car! I will probably change to go flats once the tread is down low, assuming I can find some decent ones at not too silly prices! I recently checked pricing for replacements and found the RF Pirelli’s as currently fitted to be the cheapest available which I thought odd.
