Battery registration

Hi, Installed new batt in my 2018 x2 Xdrive. Do I need to register the battery. I've read on some models its not necessary. Bought 189.00 scan tool to do this. To me this is way overkill. Thanks V

It's a good idea to register the battery, which also resets the adaptive charging and wear calculations. If you installed anything but the exact same OEM battery, then definitely.

That said, if you don't, nothing super bad will happen. But you won't get full performance out of it.

There are inexpensive apps that can do the battery operations btw, and a bunch more. Cost of the app plus the OBD thingy are way less than $189.
