Stock 17 F48

Hey guys, I recently purchased a BMW X1 with 38k miles. I also got the extended warranty for 3 years/50k miles. I hear when in warranty, you really can’t do any upgrades performance wise. Does anyone know what mods I can do that won’t void my warranty?

If I was looking at a fresh 3-year warranty for my '17, I wouldn't even think about chipping the engine or modifying the exhaust (other than blocking the right exhaust flap open). Instead, save for set of quality rotors and premium brake pads, a set of non-runflats and a spare, LED bulbs all around, additional window tinting and read about enabling various "driver comforts" enabled thru coding. A nice upgrade for the cars audio amp and front speakers should be in the running too.

Cosmetic mods only. Any mod that affects the engine and transmission system could give BMW a reason to reject a claim.

Seconded. I wish I did tints on my X1 something i always regretted but never got to. Ended up doing ceramic tints all around the Tiguan once I received it.

There are some plug-and-play tunes (JB4 for example) which you can just take off before taking the car for service and tecnically BMW will never know you tuned your car. It is still risky though, and it is best to wait 12k more miles.

Yes. The tdi boxes are in line after the ECU and when removed do not show an imprint that they were connected. In the UK we have the 192 bhp engine, not the US 248 bhp version see here...

I would not sleep easy especially if the was a catastrophic engine problem and were not able to remove the tdi tuning box. It can happen!

I have 5% tints all around on her . Also I have done some coding to it, like the lights at the door handling being on when reversing, etc.. but I was thinking of throwing it on air suspension once these stock suspension give up. Also, I’m looking into a nice set of Rotiform rims 19*8.5
