I am quite impressed with the MPG i get.
I have a 2017 Xdrive 28i with the Msport package and over the past few months of owning this i am very impressed with how good gas mileage i am getting. I will say i do mostly Hwy like 80% and 20% city/stop and go. I also travel about 75mph on the Hwy. This last tank i put 429.4 miles on and put 14.5 gallons in which equated to about 29.4 MPG which is amazing. My GTI i had never even got close to 30 in the same driving. I will say the low fuel warning seems a bit aggressive.

Interestingly I also average around 29 mpg. Using 91 which is the highest available in my town, we enjoy our 85 octane here because of the altitude and older cars. I drive almost exclusively in sport mode but I'm certainly not hooning it everywhere I go. The part that I find intriguing though is that I drive almost entirely city roads unless it's the weekend. When I have taken trips up to Denver and such, I've found the car averages the same usage despite the switch to highway roads. My in-town driving is really not much stop and go though so maybe that's why.
Also, I agree on the warning light being aggressive. I could see that being useful in areas where premium gasoline is harder to come by, but in town it is just a bit obnoxious. |

When converted into UK mpg it equals 35.31 mpg. Reasonable figures.

+1 my wife usually gets around 27mpg and spends a lot on side country roads with not a whole bunch of stopping. I myself hoon my car (and it's a little different being an x2 m35i) .. but even with tuning it a lot lately (lots of pulls) I've gotten 24mpg. I'm always stuck in traffic so I think I got a best of 26 when I first got the car.
By the way, I didn't look specifically on the X1, but I know on my X2 you can certainly code the chime warning for fuel.. so if you want to change it, you most likely can. |

I've been very impressed by our 2016 X1 25i (aka 28i). According to the fuel log (not the car's computer, which is somewhat awry), average fuel consumption over 70,000 km is 8.19L/100km (around 34.5 miles per imperial gallon). I noticed fuel economy lifted quite well after around 10,000km.

Some years ago you could change the settings (apply a correction) to the car's consumption readout so that it fitted your driving style. It was done in the car's hidden menu. I do not remember how to do it now and I am not so sure it can be done on the X1!
