Exterior, I like both. Cockpit wise, the old one is the winner hands down. More fluent, communicate with the central console by flowing; that new triangle described by the vents, radio controls, etc. looks very bad to me, not to mention the third-party Garmin nav system. I like the first generation A LOT BETTER!

Exterior: I like both but LOVE the new one!
Interior: prefer old model Not a big fan of the TABLET stuck in the dash? Can we not put this on a motorized stack so it can flip up and down or drop down into the dash and disappear ? Not a fan of the vent triangle center stack I do like the top section of the dash on the new model. If this new shifter banishes the old wonky shifter with the silly P for park and separate R function then I am for it. |

Posts such as these should only be used for design purposes, as the photos used are never dimensionally accurate. Each set is enlarged proportionally so they will match in size.
The most telling photos for both design and proportion will show both vehicles actually parked next to one another! New X1 is fantastic btw...tiny, but fantastic. |

Great looks, it will get more fans than the previous model which I liked by the way.
but for me, it won't work...I will stay away from FWD.

Apart from the shifter everything else seems better.

Design-wise, the new X1 looks very good, there is no comparison to the outgoing model. Headlights look great and remind me of the previous X5 headlights (the current X5 headlights are probably designed by someone who has Parkinson's disease - the are random unexplained tremblings in the lines). Tail lights remind me of the 6-series (which is a great looking car).
However, the new proportions are made possible by the new FWD-first platform. So basically, the new X1 looks great but is fundamentally flawed. |

Big improvement. E84 looked like a wagon trying to be an SUV. Confused, awkward, awful design. This is cohesive, and is just a small X car. Still wouldn't pick it over the F31.
That shifter though...yeesh!

Man the new one looks good. Hopefully it will draw away from people buying larger SUV's that they don't need.

Better design but hideous fwd proportions. And whats wrong with the interior??? Steering wheel faces one way, pedals another, seat serms to be only thing "straight" and center console aswell akward tilt to the left. I am sure it wont drive aswell as 1st gen with eps and with transverse engine + short front. Shame

In summary this x1 looks better than previous gen on the outside. Rubbish in everyother departmen. A mini paceman with a bmw badge. I would get the mini. Or keep 1st gen x1 if you like driving |

Looks SO much better. I felt the E84 looks tired the moment it was designed. Can't wait to see the F48 in person (but what's up with the awkward new shift lever with boot?)
