BMW Navigation below average

I just purchased a used X1 with the smaller screen and was shocked to find that the navigation was unusable. It doesn't even show distance to next turn or upcoming turns. It is all voice based. Am I missing something or has BMW dumbed down their navigation this much?

You can have the distance to junction if you select the auto zoom with info option map view. This is the map view I use. Also a selection in the nav options for showing junction details (not with the car so can't check exactly but it's an option in the nav settings). Haven't really tested this but it comes up with a more detailed view of the junction even if you're on another screen like media for example.

Hope this helps

It sounds like the Status Information has been turned off. If you just click down on the iDrive controller when on the Map view, hopefully there will be an option to turn ON the Status Information. Then you should have a small panel on the right side of the map that shows the distance to your destination, ETA, distance to next turn/roundabout/junction etc., and a diagram of that turn as you approach. I've also got the small screen and I find the navigation quite acceptable, particularly when paired with the BMW Connected phone app that allows you to send destinations to the car.

I think that happens on the older idrive cars but not the newer ones. I think the distance to next turn is only shown on the additional info map. Stand to be corrected though.
Do you have the touch screen?

Assume you have sorted by now but if not, go to nav setting and select arrow view. It will give junction info. Use controller to zoom into map which does auto zoom in and out dependent on speed. You can over-ride this as well.
