They did the reflash and I guess determined that the turbo and tail light needed replacement. He offered me to keep the loaner but I wanted the hell out of it. I guess this proves how nice the m35i is, when I had my x1 almost anything was better, now I long for my car after 5 minutes.

Haha.. interesting the tail light needs replacement too... I agree, I'm not necessarily looking forward to the loaner.. usually I like to try something newer and different, but I think it's all going to be a letdown.

I wrung out the turbo this morning and am happy to say that the flash didn’t detune us, still pushing 22.8psi of boost wide open.

I was curious after reading the m340i thread where the tuner claimed Bmw has dropped power twice.

Ugh I got a base model 2019 X3 as well.. but having absolutely no options, and even the tiny idrive menu is so.. ghetto. I almost laughed because I thought the menu had some special viewing options because the icons I kid you not were all about 1 inch tall and I could barely read them vs the full screen fitting 3 icons at a time. The suspension is still pretty good, and it's very quiet though... that's about all the nice things I can say.

Yes it seems to me that they are "low profile" paddle shifters. Also the steering wheel is comically thin compared to all my cars (heck it's even thinner than our minivan). I did pop open the hood to take a peek, and there is actually a LOT of extra room in the engine bay. You could pretty clearly see the turbo (which is teeny) and the electronic wastegate. I was still very intrigued with the active opening and closing grills. I wanted to see them open but every time the car was parked it was closed. It rained today so there was a lot of water.. at one point a whole rush of water spouted out like a spray. I was going about the same 30 mph ish, so my assumption is that those vents opened up and a lot of water got pushed away. Dealer is pretty slow, but very communicative. Apparently the parts could not be ordered until the car was physically in the shop. So they estimated one day, while they tore down the car ahead of time. I got a text today saying the turbo still did not arrive in this morning's shipment so expect another day. Guess I have to endure the super quiet, fat feeling X3. The way that the hood has two "bumps" on the sides it makes me feel like it's wider than even my minivan in the small parking garage I daily park in.

I did a few pulls in the x3, and it does actually feel pretty strong. It might have been the super sound deadening quiet and poor pedal feel that made me feel like it was a pig to start out with. Still.. I can't wait to get back into my X2!

You think you got it bad? I got a base x1. It did only have 13 miles on it and its hauled backer board, drywall and some trim today.

Haha I did "ask for something cool" but the X3 is actually not too bad after driving it for a few days. It's the 30i engine but it does feel pretty decent considering the size of the X3. The pedal feel including the brake pedal is something more refined. As you know I've complained that the brakes were too touchy on the X2 and the throttle is either too twitchy or a dead spot. Overall they did a better job on this X3 driveability.. but it is their flagship selling suv afterall. I was thinking maybe the M brakes make it more touchy but I also feel the wife's X1 brakes were a little too touchy as well (and hers is msport, but nothing special brake wise it's all appearance).

I noticed a few more things: The idrive had a lot more options even in the stripped out tiny screen. For example it has "xdrive" monitoring that shows the yaw and pitch of the car. Neat little thing. The pedestrian detection seems ages better and also notifies of cross traffic etc although it might be related to the blind spot. It beeps/warns me a lot more which is a little bit annoying, but I figured if any of the features are triggered it might be "safer?"

Also it has automatically tightening seatbelts which is funky. I have been in the newer 3 series cars that had it, I thought it was related to sports mode but it just gives you a little tug when you hit like 5mph.

Just got it back tonight.. Boy do I miss it! So they had to order the turbo after the car was in.. Total was Tuesday through to Friday. I think they ordered the turbo Tuesday... Tore it down Wednesday to wait for turbo..which didn't come in until Friday morning (today) and I messaged them at 5pm for an update and they were just sending it for a wash. What I find that is really odd still is that the x3 was way more drivable in comfort mode (sport did little to improve). Vs the x2 in comfort felt rather weak and less torquey. Of course I put it back into sport mode and smiled as I wrung it out. A lot of my saved settings including my Bluetooth was reset. I had to change the color of the ambient lighting too. There's a bunch I'll have to recode.. Probably will just go through every menu again this weekend.

Just plugged in my OBDII reader and I am also at 22.8psi. I don't know if it's in my mind, but it seems like the spooling sound is louder on lighter throttle than before. I noticed it when talking on the phone the other day, and turned off my radio today and it does indeed sound louder. I love all of the turbo sounds however, I'm waiting for an intake or if I get some time I might take things apart to look a little more at the setup. It seemed to me that the stock intake might have a larger resonator box build in. I took a peek inside the engine bay to make sure that nothing got displaced when doing the recall. They MUST have gone from underneath though as it looks like absolutely nothing was touched from the top (there's some fine dust/grit inside my engine bay and I didn't see any signs of movement).

I was hoping the whole motor didn’t have to come out. More noise is good!

It’s 5pm in Atlanta, no boost available! I’ll tell you tomorrow, going to the mountains.

I sure did miss the speed, man this girl is feisty!

I think you’re right, especially at low levels. Its finally in the 60s in the morning so I was able to enjoy having the windows down a bit.

My advisor told me she had a 22 year master tech do the job by himself. She said she always schedules guys like that on the higher performance cars. I’m ok with it taking longer in that case.

Yes definitely! I have the morning off for kid duty so I tore open the intake. First of all... For just under 4k on the clock, that pre filter you found is really Dusty/dirty! Looking at the whole intake system there is first a filtering mesh built into the scoops from the radiator for large things.. Then there's that pre filter. I'm sure when I get an open air cone I'll have to debate blocking off or putting a cotton mesh in the air intake to stop all the crap from dirtying my engine bay. Also I further took apart the air intake and investigated that little circle you posted up about a little while ago. I complete disassembled it and it's actually a "relief valve". This literally goes outside the air intake box to the engine bay, not attached to anything. The valve opens from the engine bay into the intake. My only assumption is that if for some reason the intake can't pull enough air from the radiator side it will pull it from that tiny hole. I've never seen anything like it on any air box. I also bet that if I get a metal pipe from the intake to the air filter it would sound great. However, they use those funky clamps on the intake side and that would be difficult to take off. We'll see.. I've been slowly looking around for more sound

Does it relieve in or out? Might be overboost protection

Interesting.
I don’t know if it’s because I was driving a stock x1 for a week or what but I feel like I have more low end power now.

i haven't received a letter yet. But I wonder if work was done to engine before I got it with 2000 miles on the dial as the Owner of the dealership owned it and I have had zero issues and the car is freaky fast and even better with pedal tuner on Orange level one Red. And this is coming from a 350 WHP and 400WTQ daily driver STI. Very happy with this BMW so far. Can't imagine it getting better with new Turbo and Tune, for free. hmmmm
