Brake Job Torque Numbers

X1 is ready for brakes. Anyone know what the torque numbers are? Unfortunately, no third party service manuals out there that I am aware of.

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...als/34-brakes/

Navigate through the menus to find torque figures and repair procedure for front vs rear brakes. I've linked the instructions for an Xdrive model, which may differ from Sdrive.

My main concern are the caliper carrier to knuckle e-torx bolts (34206867544 - M12x1.5x33). I think they are one time use. Found this from a MINI site - jointing torque of 30 Nm + 90 deg

The rear caliper guide pins (34111157041) are 30 Nm, correct?

Thanks!

I did the Front Brakes and have these values written down:

Caliper carrier to knuckle (34106864424 - M12x1.5x43) - 110 Nm
Caliper bolts (34116768190) - 35 Nm
Rotor retaining bolt (34211161806) - 16 Nm
Shield bolts (34116868785) - 12 Nm

Hi there,

I changed the front disks, pads, and lines a few months ago, and I got all the info from ISTA.

I'm attaching the torq specifications for both front and rear brakes jobs. Let me know if you need anything else.

You got it. I used those same torque values for the bolts to the caliper carrier/bracket and caliper guide pins, as also posted in full by jrveron.

You can't go wrong with using brand new caliper carrier bolts, but I did re-use my existing ones. Rear brakes are holding perfectly with no issues after 25k miles.

I think you shouldn't be doing 30Nm + 90° more than once (the first time only). Repeating the procedure would stretch the bolts and they could snap.

Imo, if you have to reuse the rear bolts, it should be just a fixed torque. Something like 70Nm with some threadlocker. The front bolts are 110Nm, but have 30% more thread.

Typically I'm in agreement. Note that BMW's tightening specifications does permit one to renew the carrier bolts instead of replacing.

Also, 30 Nm is only ~22 ft-lbs, which is barely hand tight. It doesn't appear to be a stretch bolt situation like it would be for cylinder head bolts.

I always use blue threadlocker for added protection.

Interesting. I thought renew meant they need to be replaced. Now I see they have "renew" everywhere. I bought a new set of e-torx bolts for the rear brackets. Did not replace the front ones when I did them before.

Hi, JRVERON

I try to change brake pads/rotors(rear+front) this weekend, and I have 19 x1, 28ix. Its not M series like you mentioned. Will it be same torque spec as you described? Looks like same, but need to double check if you can please!

And second question is NOT related this thread, but I have 19 x3 30ix also need to replace both pads and rotors.

I searched x3 forums, hundreds pages, but I can’t find torque spec at all for 30ix. There are some information for m40i, different torque value, also parts are not same.

Is it possible you can provide torque spec chart as you did for x1? I wrote thread to ask help in x3 forum, but nobody answered yet. It will be really appreciated if you can.

Thank you so much for your great efforts, and all other members.

Yes, Sr.! Both M-Sport and X-Line trims use the same torq since it isn't a 'real' M preparation; it's only a different trim line.

Sorry bud, I don't think I have information , only for the X1. Just in case, if you want, PM me your VIN so I can enter it into the ISTA program and check if my package includes the X3 (G01).

Thank you so much JRVERON!

I didnt expect you respond me so soon. Now I can change my daughter’s X1 in this weekend. I’m sure it will take around 5-6 hours easily to change whole rotors and pads, but it will nice full time extra work on Saturday.

Thank you so much again, and I just pm you x3 vin# in case you help me again. Have a great evening!!

Hi Jeff! Guess what; I do have the info

You can't receive PMs because you're a new user, but I'm attaching a lot of info about the X3 (G01) brake work: the torq specifications and guidelines on how to remove pads, calipers, and rotors. Keep in mind you need to access from a computer to see the attachments.

Btw, let me know if you need guidelines or info about how to replace rotors and pads in the X1. I did it a time ago and have the step-by-step guidelines to share with you.

Final thought, you may want to install the ISTA program on your computer. It's actually a VM (virtual machine) that runs on top of everything, so you don't need to configure anything. Check this thread: https://f48.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...9&postcount=18. You can browse all the information without connecting to your X3 (i.e., offline).

Will do x3 brake job next week- Thank you JRVERON!

I think IÂ’m lucky that I found this thread.

Thanks so much JRVERON!

I didn't expect you help this much for the newbie. It is great experience dealing with this situation. Great!

I mostly did just oil changes by myself, and never figured I will be diyer. But I had really bad experience with bmw dealer, and local mechanics for my old 2010 e90, had so much problems, like leaked oil filter housing, head gasket leaks, etc. every single time when they quote, surprisingly expensive, and problem happened again 1-2years later. It means no warranty. Eventually, I got rid of that last year, and decided I will fix my other cars, fortunately well maintained upto now. I changed oil every 3,500 miles, and its time to change brake system. Change pads/rotors, and change bleed/change brake fluids, already experienced with old e90, so not a big deal to open the hood. Matter is finding specs for newer cars, especially torque values. Problem solved!

Make story short, IÂ’m really glad to join this forum, and found nice people. Nowadays it not easy you know guys. Especially when you getting older🙁 thank you everyone and I want to say you guysÂ…Its really good to be here!

JRVERON, i will open files when i go home w pc. 🥳
