I can't believe the prices for a SS date Sub. I purchased mine 6 years ago, I think Rolex has lost it's mind

True! They have. They are much cheaper in Europe as my brother just purchased his SS black date sub for $2500 cheaper. And this was from the Rolex shop before anyone comments that it was from here and there.

Are you talking about new? Because they have many months waiting lists in most countries... Italy and Poland I can guarantee that is the case.

Yes brand new. From Rolex in Spain. He got lucky. I didn't. I wanted the Batman and it was reserved for someone else.

Dont how thats possible; thats effectively 30% off, I saw that once in Italy but that was many many years ago before the boom started.

We don't pay vat so we get back 17-18% from the price. Like I said it is cheaper in Europe. He'll pick me up a Batman once he goes back next year and he will reserve it before he goes back. The dealer was very happy to deal with him as he purchased two watches on the spot and said they were willing to hook him up with a Batman once he visits Spain again.

Next year fingers crossed.

Same goes for the datejust. You're looking at 10-20% difference between new and used.

The ceramic Daytonas are a "limited" edition. Same with the LVs, BLNRs, the newest Basel watches, etc with years long waitlist for most. Hence the premium price.

And yeah you're going to get fleeced on trading in. Its like cars. I was offered only 4k for a 116610ln
Just going back to this a little, since I faced a similar dillema... if you're thinking about buying the watch and keeping it for a real long time; do you really think its' worth saving $1500-$2000. I bought a new sub over the weekend at msrp (i got lucky because i bothered my AD like 3 times and had bought a watch there before). The used ones that i saw at stores or online where similar price and in a lot of cases over msrp lol. Even if I could snag a used SS date sub for lets say $7k, I wouldn't do it. Those are usually the really old ones and the ones with a $2.5k discount were like 25 years old steel models not the ceramic newer type. My new one came with a 5 year factory warranty and 5 year extended from my AD (for a total of 10 years). The only situation at least currently where I see a used SS Rolex being worth it right now is if the general market takes a complete shit like I've mentioned before where people could start letting these things go for half price. Just my thoughts... Also why would anyone trade a luxury good; there is virtually no more sure fire way to get fleeced lol.

currently with the holidays, the 2ndary market is about the same, or more than msrp. late spring/early summer it will dip back down to where you can save $1-2k.

the 25yo subs are the 5 digit ones, but if properly maintained, will last a long time. Some people prefer them over the 6 digit you bought due to the slimmer and smaller case.

as for is it worth it, thats up to you to decide. for me, buying a watch im going to keep and not abuse, it doesnt matter if its used or new, all that matters is the price. the warranty wont cover a service, which it will eventually need, and the movements in these have been around for 30+ years without any major issues, so unless you got a lemon, you wont need the warranty.

he paid ~$6500 USD for it? or 6500 euro?

are you sure it was a new one? havent seen anyone getting ceramic subs for $2500 off MSRP in any country.

They're so nice there! Been going to the Grand for the holidays/New Years for years now and I always love popping in to Barron & Leeds just to look. They know I'm not buying another Rolex (yet!) but they let me try whatever I want on!

Let's see a pic of the watch!

They were great. I went in looking for a blue datejust 41. This just fit the bill much better. Very versatile watch.

Beautiful piece! My next Rolex will either be a Hulk Submariner (after seeing one in person leaning toward it heavily) or one of the YM40 models!

This very particular watch Rolex Daytona 116519 LN has inarguably the best dial combo to me . It looks better than black , white and even than ice dial .It's called Steel Gray

I’ve been looking for a Rolex Hulk for about 3 months, I didn’t realize how rare they are. Every dealer I contacted just laughed when I said I wanted one for my 50th birthday in January. I’ve heard of people waiting a year to get one.
Well I got a surprise call on Christmas Eve from an AD in Bellevue WA and I got to the store as quickly as I could to collect this. I can’t believe how lucky I am to get this.
