X1 Regret?
So, after nearly a year with this dog, I'm done.
On top of the myriad squeaks and rattles from every other piece of cheap plastic in/on the dash, door cards and ceiling, the replacement of all of the brake pads and all four discs at 9,000 km (under warranty, thank god) and now a squeaky front suspension at 13,000 km, it's probably time to push this thing into a lake. I would almost tolerate the shit build quality and fragility if it didn't drive like a goddamn minivan. This just might be the most miserable new car I've ever had (and I had MINIs!)... |

Wow, maybe you just got a lemon, ours is 2 years old now with 40000km still original tires and brakes, no rattles or squeaks anywhere, it is one of the first production models that is made in Germany so maybe that is why.

My only complaints are crappy cup holder locations and the steering wheel being off center a bit. Other than that it’s a great little SUV for 15000kms. We will definitely move into a M40i X3 when the redesign is out and we are another year or two into our lease.

...and now the punchline: the depreciation on this thing is UNBELIEVABLE. Went back for fresh look at the CX5 from last year's shortlist and we're so far underwater with the X1 it's depressing.
Time to park it somewhere sketchy with the key on the (prematurely shiny) seat! |

Yeah I'm looking forward to getting shut of ours too. I have the B48 2.0i Xdrive Xline and it is literally the WORST fuel economy I have ever experienced, in fact, I spent the same amount on fuel covering the same distance in a 2017 350bhp Audi TT RS and to add further insult, my Dad rings me up from Spain after hiring a new B48 320i to tell me about how often he had to fill the damn thing up.
Ours has had a few minor niggles too in 7000 miles, creaking brakes when parking from new, rattling plastics that I finally located to OBD cover, windscreens that chip at the mere sight of a stone, some loud vibrating noise / feeling when turning 90 degrees right out of junctions (not sure if that's some kind of traction control / xdrive thing with it being cold and damp but it's still very annoying), water stains down both front quarters from the mirrors that require a serious polish after washing to remove. Despite opting for heated Sports Seats with electronic lumbar after a fair distance they are without doubt the worst seats I've experienced. Oh and who ever designed that dash / steering wheel that obstructs 1/3rd of the info needs shooting |

My fuel economy is not great, struggling to get 30mpg.
However there are NO creaks and rattles and overall I am delighted with my X1. I really appreciate the heated seats now the weather is getting colder. |

Our 2016 25i xDrive has averaged 8.23 Litres/100Km over 50,000Km. A couple of warranty issues, but well put together and very comfortable

We have now done over 8000 miles now having bought it used with 2100 miles on the clock
It is a vast improvement on the previous e84 model, and to date has had no trouble at all. The fuel use seems very variable ,in town and short runs quite poor but a lot better on longer trips. To date its averaged 37.57mpg but during a week spent in the Lake District it dropped to 31mpg.The e84 was diesel and did 46.77mpg over 63.000 miles The car has Leather Sport seat with Lumber support and we are very pleased with them. My only complaint is the LEC headlights are not as good as the Zenons in the e84,and I miss the self dipping. The car does not have Run on Flats and the ride is a lot better. Overall very happy , but not much fun as my Z3 2.2 |

I wouldn’t describe my X1 as a dog, but can’t say I am very impressed. The standard seats are way too small and as a previous poster implies I would not have been happier with the upgrades. The steering wheel/dash arrangement just doesn’t work, some info is obscured whichever way the wheel is adjusted. Lowering the seats fully leaves them at a ridiculous angle, but I have to do so to get my thighs under the wheel (I am only 5ft 7ins).
But the worst things are the electronics. Every now and again, the car goes into limp mode after the “Driving Stabilisation” warning alert takes over the screen. Then it says “Front end collision warning restricted. Take car to dealer. Drive moderately”. This has happened four times and each time I have cleared the problem by wiping the parking sensors and the sensing screen camera. Switch off, leave it for half an hour, and hey presto everything is ok again. But limp mode is downright dangerous, restricting you to a crawl from a standing start crossing junctions, and only a very slow speed increase. Can’t believe BMW allow this. Think pressing the accelerator and next to nothing happens!! I am now fearful of long journeys in case this happens again and, by the way, the last time it happened was AFTER my dealer checked it out and found no fault. Finally, as I have mentioned on another thread, my Bridgestone RFs (harsh and noisy) are down to 3 mms after only 11,000 miles. Looking on the bright side, I can change them soon To be honest, I won’t be sorry to trade in this car, but that can’t be for a while yet... |

I have mixed views about mine. My wife loves it however.
The overall mpg is 38.5 over 15,100 miles in just about a year of ownership from new. We had downsized from a M-B e 320 élégance cdi. Tyre noise is my biggest complaint on bad road services. Performance wise it is not dissimilar to the Mercedes I had. Economy wise, the old e320 diesel is marginally better than my BMW. But the difference in diesel price compared with petrol makes running costs fairly similar. The front seats are disappointing for a premium brand. As are the lack of little niceties that are standard at Ford. So far I have had trouble free motoring, but if it starts to be problematical i will ditch it and go for the Volvo XC60. Would I buy another? It depends on whether or not the car remains reliable, the residual value, and the extras charged for by BMW. |

We traded in our 2018 X1 after 20 months and 9300 miles. It was a great little CUV that both my wife and I liked a lot. No squeaks, creaks or rattles and problem free during the whole time. It's in mint condition so I was surprised to see that it's still in the dealer's inventory after 2 months.
We got a 2019 X3 - Were looking for something offering a little more luxury, newer tech and safety features. No regrets at all with the X1 though. |

No regrets here with a 2017 X1s non-sport with 11,000 miles. Got about 42mpg on highway last weekend using Eco mode, about gets about 27mpg around San Diego hills. No issues at all so far. It's my wife's car, she wanted the standard seats, I'm ok with them. I still drive an e46 330i, so the X1 is really not my cup of tea, but I find it easy to drive with the Aisin 8sp auto on long highway trips or in LA traffic, it's matched well to the engine. It doesn't handle as well as my 330i in hard turns, but it's not supposed to. It's very stable in normal driving.

I'm not too far from you (i'm in orange county) and I do plan getting a 2018 X1 today or tomorrow (depending on the deal). As I was conversing with other forums members, one of the X1 that we have interest in, is manufactured in Brazil and raises many questions for me... (quality build, positive/negative reviews) and so far I have gotten positive reviews. Definitely know about the LA traffic (91 freeway mostly) and to hope to make the daily commute more enjoyable & efficient. I'm trying to get out of my old 2001 Ford Explorer Sport (stick shift btw) and its an relaxing automatic, daily driver. After reading other forum members horror stories, it is like a hit & miss, when it comes to quality...

Lon, ok, I think you’ll be ok with a BR build, haven’t heard anything negative. Ours is a DE build and so far so good. Only minor thing is a random sound when backing up which I think is a hanging caliper, but it’s so rare, don’t think I can reproduce it at the dealer. The things that impress me most are the smoothness of the Aisin 8sp, the low down torque of the 2.0T, and the highway fuel economy. We ordered ours in Dec 16 and picked up in Mar.17. My wife loves commuting in it, big step up from her Corolla, and she’s safer in it. Good luck on your choice....

Love our '17 X1 xDrive. 15,XXX miles so far and it's been flawless. Perfect vehicle for living in downtown Portland, Oregon.

My only complaints for my 2017 model:
1. Heated steering wheel gets way too hot. 2. Standard seats are nothing too write home about. 3. Standard speakers are not great. (replacement Focal's are great). 4. Engine sounds like it is pinging on acceleration. 5. Don't like standard run flats. (poor ride quality). 6. Lack of safety features at any price (that are standard on Asian Vehicles at a lower price point). 7. Lack of amber rear turn signals. 8. Lack of rear fog lights. My wife and I love our X1 but would love it more if BMW was more attentive to these issues. |

2. We specifically got a X1 with the sport seats. Drove one with the standard seats and they were horrific after 5min, just terrible, terrible bench's. My gripe: The steering column seems off centred to the left.
