Front break pads 34 000 km
On 34 000 kilometers on my X1 sdrive18d f48 break pads sensor activated.
In authorised Bmw service they say it is only front break pads and it will cost 245,00 euros to change. It is not included in 5 years/100 000km free service. I think it is too expensive and too early to change but that is what sensor says. It is automatic transmission. They say that rear break pads will also need to be changed soon but not before sensor activates. I am in Croatia, town Split |

mine replaced @ 16,000 miles, brake is included in free maintenance in the US. brake job at dealer service includes pads, rotors, and sensor. 245.00 euro isn't too steep. DIY just the pad and sensor will be cheaper.

Mine were replaced @ 4,000 under warranty due to the X1 sitting on the lot for 3 months.

I consider it also too soon to change it on 34 000 km. If it would have been included in service package it would be fair but their excuse is that brake pads are like tyres, you can wear them out in 10 000 km or you can wair them in 50 000 km, depending how you drive, is it in town mostly or highways. I asume that rear break pads will be soon also for change.
On the other hand oil in brake system is included in service package and it will be changed when I change rear brake pads. Anyone has a recomendation what brand rear brake pads to order for X1, what brand do they use? Last edited by Wisly; 11-27-2018 at 06:27 AM.. |

Brake Pad
My front pads were replaced at 32,000 miles which is about half of what i got on my previous cars! But compared others seems good! It was not included in service package and cost me £180. I was told the pads are smaller than on other models and are same size as Mini and was told that life dependent on " driving style." I am no boy racer and live in countryside so very little town driving and brake use.

At 40k I am driving nearly 1k over the supposed change — now the iDrive shows “Brake system. Drive moderately” or something like that. But I checked with the dealer two weeks ago and they said I can easily drive 10-15k with the same pads. I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow for “sensor calibration”. Will see if that will actually do the trick.
But I agree, the wear on the pads does appear premature for a lot of X1 drivers out here. On my previous cars I usually changed the pads after driving like 85k. |
