I've just opened the BMW Download Manager application on my iMac and there's another update available, 2018-4. There's no indication of what changes/updates there may be on the mapping, but I have noticed that both Google Maps and Here Maps have been updated very recently to show the new road layout (partly completed) around M1 Junction 24, where extensive changes have been underway over the past several months. Will see when the update is applied to my X1 in a few minutes time.

Same here unfortunately I periodically try with the BMW Download Manager on my Windows 10 laptop and keep getting offered "2018-1" still... Mine is a June 2016 build.

Remember, those who got 2018-3/4 update got a different map-system than those only got 2018-1 update. Those who got 2018-3/4 got the WAY-system, those who got 2018-1 got ROUTE-system.

I mentioned in original post the changes around J24 on M1, but the Nav still thinks I’m driving through a field around there, despite having 2018-4. |

I have a similar year X1 and have looked at the update download version it only offers ver 1 still as of today, looks like another ploy to sell you a new car 😤

I'm starting to feel grumpy - it's a year since the last update, so the "3 year USB map update" is looking like a joke.

I'm surprised anyone cares about the built in sat nav tbh - since starting to use Waze a few years ago, I haven't looked back. S**ts all over any other GPS I've used.

I care about it because I've paid for it in the price of the car - we have no choice -it's no longer optional.
So, based on what they wanted to charge for the optional sat-nav in my previous BMW, it's probably added £500 ~ £800 to the cost of the X1. All this for a system that is not a patch on my wife's Tom-Tom satnav, which has had almost monthly updates in the last year compared to my car's none (2018-1 was the last). There are 2 major road layout changes near me that have now been open for 6 months+ and neither of them appear in my X1's sat-nav. Just been on the 'phone to BMW Connected Drive Customer Support who mentioned that many others have been complaining & "they are aware of the issue". He believes the next update for cars with my head-unit will be in March 2019!!! So thats an update every 18 months I told him I'd rather buy a TomTom and stick it on my windscreen than renew my BMW map-update option next year. Terrible service from BMW

Just upgraded my UK Feb 2017. Website offered me 2018-1 (ROUTE-system).
Agree with posters, a really lazy effort by BMW - your map can be 18 months out of date. The software is also fussy about needing a FAT32 formatted USB. And the download and update takes forever. I also run a TomTom, the device, lifetime subscription, frequent updates and Camera subscription cost less that a years renewal with BMW. Max |
