SatNav - Europe Map Data Update
For those of us in Europe (nothing to do with Brexit - stay off that one!), there is now a mapping update available by download from BMW:
'Road Map EUROPE Way 2018-2' It is 13.10GB and can be downloaded ready for installation via a USB stick from the BMW Download Manager App (I have it on my iMac). I don't know when, or if, this update this might be available via the onboard SIM card in the car. Update: Successfully applied to X1 via USB Stick. Last edited by oakey46; 06-30-2018 at 04:56 PM.. If it helps, my X1 was built March 2018 and the navigation unit/display is the iDrive 6 standard smaller screen. Perhaps the update has been released in the UK, but not yet across the Continent. Just keep checking!

Hi there, i'm just having trouble with this thing.
First time i try to update somethign on this car so maybe i'm doing something wrong. After downloading the software through bmw download manager i moved it into my 64gb USB which i previously formated to FAT32. Once i tried to apply the update on my iDrive it says that there is no software on my USB, wtf. Am i doing something wrong? might it be because there is also audio files on my pendrive? cheers for the reading mate |

I had to format the drive before adding the download update to the stick. Transferring the download, via the BMW Download Manager app, actually extracts (unzips) the files onto the USB. If you simply moved the download to the USB it will not work. In my case, for some reason the download would not extract through the BMW Download Manager application (I use an iMac, rather than a Windows PC), so I had to find the download location on the Mac and manually extract and transfer the files to a formatted USB stick. Putting the USB stick into the car and switching on the ignition automatically started the update, which took a few minutes to complete. |

Hi there,
I decided to check which version of map I have and it's Version 2018-1 though Car was only built in June and delivered a couple of weeks ago. Anyways I've tried to locate where I download "2018-2" but am totally baffled. I've logged onto ConnectedDrive on my laptop and it shows my car ok. Under list of services available it shows USB Map Update booked until 29.6.2021 but I cannot find any way of downloading. So hopefully somebody can point me in the direction of the Download Manager or whatever it is I need? Thanks |

SatNav - Europe Map Data Update
Bizarrely I logged onto ConnectedDrive this morning and got a screen with additional options enabled that were not there before. Following Vogits instructions (thanks) I have now been able to download and install the map update version 2018-2.
Not sure what changed unless it took a while for all my details to be fully activated in the big computer in Germany. Anyways successful outcome! |

To see which version you have, go into Navigation, scroll down to Settings and then Position & Version, followed by Version Information. The bottom line should show, if you have the latest version, ‘Road Map EUROPE Way 2018-2’ and some other letters/numbers, which presumably relate to the version. So hope that helps. I've just logged in to my Connected Drive account and it is now showing that map version 2018-3 is available for my car (vehicle first registered end March 2018). So I'm now going to try downloading that and installing it, though I am surprised to see an update so soon after installing 2018-2!
Here's what it says on the BMW site: 'A more current version of the map is available. Road Map EUROPE Way 2018-3 USB map update using the BMW Update Manager You can update the entire map material for your BMW navigation system using the manual map update. The "BMW Update Manager" must be installed on your PC before you begin downloading the manual map update.' I've just started to download the update using the BMW Update Manager. It is a 12.95gb download, so will probably take a while to complete. Last edited by oakey46; 08-19-2018 at 03:34 PM.. Reason: Additional info added |

Update 2018-3 installed in X1 this afternoon from USB stick. The update took a few minutes to install as soon as the USB stick was inserted and ignition turned on. A progress indicator was displayed and an update finished message came up on screen when it was complete, following which the Navigation system restarted. Interestingly, I cannot see any indication as to what the update includes.

My Dec 16 X1 now has Europe 2018-1 following Connected Drive download about 3 months ago. Looked for 2018-2 after seeing this thread but message from CD says 2018-1 is the correct version.

Satnav Europe map update
Re 2018-2 and 3, I wrote to BMW and was told that 2018-1 was my correct current update and that 2018-2 and 3 were being rolled out to customers from BMW Germany. Whether I'll get them or not remains to be seen.
