The M35i will be AWD but I thought that AWD presumably acts like FWD until the car is run in a way that AWD would then kick in. In other words in most driving conditions won稚 the M35i be in FWD mode and under rare conditions it would utilize all 4 wheels? I知 trying to get my head around the fact that this car will have 300 hp but in most conditions power will come from the front wheels vs what I知 use to on my 335i with same hp with power from the rear wheels. I知 not sure that the weight difference is on the M35i 50/50 like my 335i then maybe this makes little difference in driving dynamics?

You're correct that these cars are FWD unless AWD is required, whereas other BMWs are RWD unless AWD is required. To be honest, coming from an E46 M3, I don't really notice the X2 being "FWD" in normal driving, because I don't get a chance to drive the X2 hard very often, due to traffic. However, before I ordered mine, I got to drive an X2 on an autocross course and I found that when you really push on it, you can tell that the back end is involved. AFAIK, BMW will be changing the front transaxle to accommodate the increased horsepower. One can only hope they will revise the electronics so more power gets to the rear diff.

I recently drove a 2017 Golf R, which has 292 HP and a similar FWD/AWD layout with bias to the front. This car had no issues coping with that amount of horsepower. BMW isn't stupid, so I think they will do a good job on the M35i. Proof will be in the pudding, however.

Do most people seem to order the black leather? I'm so tempted by the other colours on offer (Oyster, Mocha and Magma)... but worried about future resale.

In order to reduce cost-out to you and improve resale opportunity then black leather is safe.

Last time i checked though people bought cars for themselves, not the next buyer. Why drive around in a car with an interior you don't like for 3-4 years, just so you can save a few bucks?

I don't mind the black (esp with blue stitching), but just wanted something slightly different, as my last 3 cars have all had black leather

Just that with the anthracite headliner and no sunroof it could get quite cave-like with a black interior.

So....after first ordering Gold with black dakota, then switching to Misano Blue with black/blue stitch dakota, finally at the 11th hour I changed to Mineral Grey (still with black/blue stitch)! Now it's locked and can't be changed further!

I've ordered the MSport 2.0i which has the body-coloured bits (not grey). Sadly downunder it's only 141kW with fwd. We don't get the awd petrol.

No sunroof, but getting comfort package, adaptive suspension, driving assistance and harman/kardon stereo upgrade.

This thread has come full circle for me. I traded in the X2 for a 2020 M2 Competition. When I originally bought the X2, I was planning to keep it for the long haul, but I had so many problems with it that I decided to dump it before the warranty ended. I had numerous problems with the A/C, the iDrive and multiple electrical problems caused by the sunroof leaking.
