Headlights - driving in France
Hi - a friend will be taking his 2017 X1 2litre M Sport to France shortly and he has made some enquiries as to what needs to be done if anything re headlight alignment for driving on the right.
BMW dealership have indicated nothing required as the LED lights give a flat beam on dip whereas he has received conflicting info to suggest the self adhesive dots need to be fixed to the light bezels. Any info I can pass onto him please. Thanks |

According to the user manual there's nothing required for LED headlights. Halogens need "beam benders" or the equivalent though. One point to note is that you should NOT use the "Auto" setting on the headlight switch. I guess this disables the cornering light effects that could cause a problem by shining sideways into traffic on the opposite side of the road.
It states: Left-hand/right-hand traffic General When driving in countries where the opposite rule of the road applies, you need to prevent your headlights from dazzling oncoming vehicles. Halogen headlights The Service Partner or a qualified specialist workshop has light benders available. Proceed in accordance with the enclosed information when affixing the light benders to the headlights. LED headlights Light distribution of the headlights avoids dazzling of the low-beam headlights when driving in a country in which the traffic drives on the opposite side. Variable light distribution When driving in a country where you drive on the opposite side of the road from the country the vehicle is licensed, do not drive with the setting "Auto", otherwise this could cause a dazzling effect from the variable light distribution. |

In agreement with Clive L. Just returned from a 7 day break in France. However I left the headlights on «*auto*» and was never once flashed by oncoming vehicles objecting to my headlights.
