BMW X1 LCI Facelift Spied

BMW X1 LCI Facelift Spied

COMMENTS

The BMW X1 LCI facelift has been spied and it's showing updated styling to bring it in line with the latest X SAV styling. The biggest change comes with the larger and taller kidney grilles which now could be connected (a la new BMW X5).

The headlights are updated with a more angular shape and hexagonal light bars, while the tail lights will also receive some nipping and tucking.

Nice! Hopefully BMW won't go overboard on the kidney grilles again....

IMO the X1 has come leaps & bounds in looks in comparison to its 1st generation. It would be a shame if they tossed all that progress away for a gargantuan set of flared nostrils!:

Ahhh but that much despised first gen X1 drove much better than this FWD biased X1 we have today. The old X1 was pretty much an E90 underneath.

Yea the new one is just a mini underneath. Which is a good car; but not 40k+ good. Bmw has lost it weighs. The first gen x1 drove good.

Very, very true. My girlfriends mom just bought a 2018 X1, & she loves it to bits. Contrarily, I know if you or me owned it we would likely be less than impressed with the drive compared to the previous X1 (as you said). Just consumer demographics, trying to appeal to certain groups with certain cars.

I'll stick to my F32 & E90 thanks!

Nice!

They also offered it with the turbocharged 3 Liter 6-Cyl in line as the XDrive35i.

It isn't a bad vehicle and reviews well for its intended audience and purpose. But the driving dynamics of the E84 were simply superior because of it being essentially a 3-Series E90 under the skin.

the first gen X1 drove better than most non-M BMWs of its era. It had great steering and great road feel. I always requested them as loaners. Drove the 2nd gen once and never wanted to again!

I hope that they will take this LCI opportunity to replace the ugly gear shifter with a decent on!

Good to see the kidneys are the right way up still. Stop trying to make connected grilles happen though.

X1 is an underrated vehicle. At least in Canada, it is very competitive in its segment for cargo space and driving dynamics.

E48 is a long way better in looks than the E84. I am still trying to decide between E84 and E48. Drove a couple of E48s. The one to get is the one with M-sports suspension. I found a couple and trying to see if it's worth to buy a year or two years old E48s. The facelift E48s hopefully comes with all the blind spot detection and proper full LED headlights. Those are the two things that's holding me from buying an x1. Specially, since this is going to be my wife's car and she would like to have as much tech as possible in the car.
We kind of stopped looking at E84s because we have an E92 and it's the same car. Although the absence of n55 and rwd platform sucks, the tech is just too old. And for the purpose of the vehicle (SAV) I think the new x1 fits the bill perfectly. Specially since we don't think we need the size of x3.

I keep reading comments like this on bimmerpost and it just ain’t true, at least according to ALL road test reviews I’ve ever read! Admittedly I’ve not driven either but just because it was a RWD based chassis does not mean it drove better!! The major car journals describe the current X1 as a night & day improvement over the old car which, despite being built on an e90 chassis, apparently did NOT drive much like an e90

What you say isn’t true either. The biggest complaint of the E84 is useless back seat for adults. The only advantage of the new X1 is a lot more space, better electronics but driving dynamics no way. Much taller and front wheel drive, Car and Driver says F48 compared to E84 performance loss and front wheel drive gremlins. All the improvenments are in packaging and interior.

Having owned an E84 35i and driven an E48, the only conceivable advantage of the new one is interior volume. An awful thing to drive though, if that's important.

This. I don't know where all these posters are getting their info from. The E84 is complete garbage compared to a F48 in every single aspect: driving dynamics, design, features, etc. Even while being FWD biased.

We've had both. The F48 is the first new BMW in our family we intend on buying out, it's THAT good. The Mini platform worked wonders for it.
